First Timer to LOS...

Hi everyone! There is loads of great info in these forums. All the contributions and great stories (as well as a few scary ones) finally convinced me to take the plunge and get tickets to the LOS. I'll be arriving in Bangkok Nov-5. I really haven't planned a thing yet - there is so much I want to do over there but not near enough time to do it. I'll be staying until Nov-22 - probably in Pattaya.

Has anyone had any experience with Bangkok Airlines Discovery Air Pass coupons? I'd like to visit Phuket, Chiang Mai, Angkor Wat, and possibly Hong Kong or Singapore for a couple days each.

Maybe I'll even get the chance to tip back a drink or ten with some BMs when I'm over there.

You are going to be hopping all over the country with only 17 days to do it.You might want to reconsider and slow down a little.Just pick two or three places and get to know them better.

Man Crusty you're not wrong...I had to laugh...he'd need a month minimum and even then pushing it...you need at least 5 days in Siem Reap to do Angkor and that leaves 12 days left to do Pattaya, Phuket and Chaing Mai...then Singapore or Hong Kong as well...Man...no way Jose...

If I were you I would spend a few nights in BKK and the rest of the time in Patong...maybe you could catch a few days in Patts as well...but that would be the most I would do in 17 days IMHO if you want to enjoy youself and not be run ragged!!

Leave the other places for the next trip...because believe me there WILL BE ONE!!!

BTW Welcome to the board...

Marcia

Welcome on board.Agree to cut your list down.i have done a round trip last year, started in chiang mai, then phuket, back bkk for only 1 1/2 day and back chiang mai. But this was already short to know all places well, except chiang mai
.wish you a nice trip as well

Welcome to the board mate. You're gonna be rushing around a little don't ya think... 17days for Phuket, chiang mai,, bkk, angkor, singapore and hong kong... IMHO, you could do singapore and hong kong in 5 days... leaving you with 12days, 2 - 3 nights in every other place. When you put travel time into it as well, its cutting it close, but depending how used to travelling you are you could just about aqueeze everything in there. Sure you won't fully know your way around by the time you leave, but you would have taken your photos and seen the important things, maybe not all the important things but the general basics surely. 1 month would be perfect, but if you PLAN it right i think its do able.

"you need at least 5 days in Siem Reap to do Angkor" Never been there myself, do you really need 5 days to see it, or is that just how much time you would like to spend seeing it?? If 5 days is the norm to see Angkor then there is no way you could squeeze it all in in 17 days...

Insomniac:
I spent two full days with a trained guide and a car and I felt good about how much ground I covered at Angkor.Over a dozen of the most famous sites, long lunch breaks, hundreds of pictures and I never felt rushed.

When I was researching the trip,a lot of people on the net insisted on 5 days minimum, but a lot also said after 5 days they were "templed out"

My honest feeling is that you can properly appreciate Angkor in 2 well planned days, but if you've got the time, and temples are really "your thing",take the 5 days and you wont regret it.

Just for fun here's my version, rushed but do able:

Nov 5-9 bangkok (get your feet wet,see some sights)
nov9-11 Sien Reap
Nov 11-17 Phuket (relax for a week,meet some BM's)
Nov 17-20 Pattaya OR Chiang Mai (do you want traditional Thailand and outdoor adventure or the largest collection of Go gos, beer bars and availabale women in Thailand?Your choice)
Nov 20-22 Use Hong Kong as your stop over on the way home and spend a couple of days there to end your holiday. rushed but doable

I looked into the multi-stop air passes as well but decided having never been to Patts or Bkk I would split my 3 weeks into a week in each place Made sure travelling time did not impact the holiday too much
