Internet Poker

Hi guys,

Wasn't sure if this subforum is for noobs to LoS or noobs to the forum, I'm the latter so thought I'd try posting here just to say hi plus ask a few questions. Anyone here have experience playing online poker in thailand? I play for a living, almost exclusively online now, and have been at least wondering about the possibility of moving out there. It seems nearly the ideal job for relocation, I mean you essentially get a western "wage", no having to deal with boss/colleagues, etc etc. Only I say nearly because...

- Yeah I know gambling for money is illegal in thailand but then so are a ton of other things that go on. I can't imagine how they would ever catch you playing online but seriously what kind of trouble would you get in, anyone know? I had one BG tell me her friend did jail time for being busted playing cards though I think that was because she couldn't pay the fine (not sure if she meant court fine or tea money??)

- How reliable is the internet in thailand? It's seemed pretty slow (for broadband) at the places I've used it. I'm not so worried about the speed though more the frequency of disconnects, those can hurt believe me...

- What is the situation regards the visa and how closely is that linked to work permit, ie does one require the other?

If anyone has experience with the above or even are playing poker in LoS themselves it would be a great help. Also I imagine the situation is similar for those earning solely from the stock market, betfair, offshore interests, etc. Well, apart from the illegal part...

I've looked into this myself and get a whole variety of answers. Although I have played online with guys in both Bangkok and Pattaya who haven't yet got into trouble.

Go into virtually any internet shop here and they will already have something like partypoker downloaded on the desktop! It's supposedly illegal to play in the US online too yet millions do.

Just make sure you have the account all setup where you are. They will not accept account deposits or setup accounts from Thailand as they recognize my Thai credit card.
That was with partypoker and they do recognize the ip from your computer as well.
There are probably proxy servers you can use. I play for fake money until I'll have a friend set up an account for me in the states.

Don't worry about internet here for a single table tourny you should be fine for a five hour tourny probably ok.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info. Yeah I'm not too fussed with the risk of being caught side of things, after all I do gamble for a living Regular card games would be another matter I think I'd be asking for big trouble there and will stay well away.

Urtheman thanks for the tip, I did a few searches today about party and some are saying that it, paradise and 888 are now blocked. Not sure if they meant the websites/account signups or the client and game traffic also. I can kinda understand the logic in blocking them - with the way thais gamble that's a ton of money going out of the country. Too bad I think a letter to the Thai Immigration Bureau explaining how I'd be a net cash importer for thailand wouldn't go down to well
