Kawabunga!!!!

Hey dudes!!!! I'm 19 and I just met this Thai girl on the net 2 weeks ago. She said she love me long time. I'm gonna like move to Thailand, give this girl all my money, and have it made in the shade boys! I mean everything is so cheap over there. I figure if I need some cash I'll just go work at mcdonalds for a few weeks or somepthin. Worst case scenario I can always sell my shoes to one of the locals. Search button? Dude, who needs em, I only wear t-shirts.

Sorry, that's for the people who make assumptions no matter what you tell them. I actually have two specific questions, if anyone has had real experience with this I appreciate any insight. I’m not looking for advise concerning work or culture.

I'm from the US, going to Thailand to get married with my girl, I'm going to stay a few months, hopefully 3, maybe 6. For now, is a tourist visa the way to go? From what I can tell, there is no advantage in declaring marriage before my visit, it doesn't appear to fall under one of the non-immigrant criteria.

Has your return ticket date ever been an issue with anyone when using a tourist visa? Like they issue you a visa for two months and your ticket is for three because you're planning to extend it, or it's 6 because you're planning to do a visa run. It's a concern for me because I've never traveled where someone hasn't pulled me aside and gone through all my stuff and ask me a million questions. (And this doesn‘t even include the time the 7 foot tall Dutch accented inspector made me pull my pants down in the Chicago airport. ’Yaha, Iya see, no box cutter in dar, ya.’ I kept asking him why he wasn‘t wearing a uniform…) If I'm better off just getting a 2 month ticket and changing the date I will, I’ll probably have to do that anyway, but I'm hoping to at least try and save the few hundred bucks that always ends up costing me.

Thanks! Can't wait to be drinkin coronas in my own little hut under the palm trees there in Bangkok. Kawabunga!

As you have already realized there is no long stay visa for your situation so a tourist visa obtained before you come is probably the easiest way.

Flying into Thailand if you have no visa at all and intend to get the 30 day 'visa on arrival' you have to have a ticket out of thailand within the 30 days.. Sometimes airlines have been slack on this but usually they wont let you board without a visa or a ticket out of the country (doesnt need to be a return).. If you have any form of visa a one way ticket is fine.

OP, is that anything like OPP?

saw bigalow a few years ago but don't remember much about it except a fishtank, maybe that was something else. Why, was there a big swedish guy in that that made someone pull their underwear down in front of 2000 people?

Thanks for the advise. So I don't need a return ticket. Think there will be an issue if I do have one but it's for longer than the visa stay? (in hopes of a boarder run)

So how much does an elephant go for these days? Are they hard to litter train? What about little monkeys, can I get one that will bring me my drinks?

Ummmm are you for real buddy?? Sounds like you've never been to thailand before if you're gonna be drinking corona's under the palm trees in bangkok... More like sitting by a road stall under an overhead bridge, drinking a sing with carbon monoxide blowing in your face every 120seconds. Going to get married at 19?? Ok fair enough but once you come to thailand you might want to marry many other women. Just a thought... No idea what the rules are like once you get married to a thai national, but before you are married, you won't find work anywhere legally. illegally sure, maybe but something legal, i highly doubt it. Although once you're married i'm not too sure how it works. I'm sure you'll make some interesting experiences, i'll be waiting to readf about them. Welcome to the board. Kawabunga dude!!!

I think I may go for the one way ticket, by the time I add the fees for changing a return date on a round trip, it probably won't be any cheaper. One way from east coast is probably going to be around 6-700. Any thoughts as to the pricing of a ticket from Thai to US, I guess I mean when you guys travel out of Thailand do you use a Thai agent or buy online?

My understanding is that if you are married to a Thai you have to have about 7,000 US in the bank before you are golden with immigration.

I don't have 7,000 but I do have plan B! I'm going to show the natives how to make ice. I figure they'll put me on the back of the dollar bill. I say on the back because I'm guessing Anna Leonowens is on the front. (I'm not totally stupid dudes, I realize they don't use dollars in Thailand, I mean whatever they use instead of dollars... wooden coins or coconut shells, monkey skulls, whatever.)
If one of those stingray things trys to get me I'll just kick it in the nuts.

Hi Gumby,if your gonna buy an elephant make sure its a pink one, they actually do a reverse shite, comes out the trunk. The trick is to park them on your hotel balcony and then you can spray Tuk Tuk drivers all night long.
