Phone calls while in Phuket

After searching the site, I have found the best bet is to unlock my quad band cell and purchase a Thai sim card while in Phuket. After looking online, it seems the price is not too high to call from Phuket to the USA from the sim cards...roughly, $.25/minute. Many of the posts I found were outdated so I was hoping that you all may be able to just tell me what Sim card company you all use to get the best service and rates to the USA etc.. while in Phuket.

Also, I have a few close friends/family that will be needing to contact me while I am in Phuket. DOes anyone have any information for a good quality and good rate calling card that would help them to call my Thai Sim Phone from their USA phones? I have looked online but I am always nervous about purchasing a card without having any true info on it. Thanks ya'll...7 more days until I arrive...

Just buy a sim when you arrive, they are in just about every seven eleven in Thailand and seem very cheap to make calls on.

Can't help you with specific companies, but can't imagine that there is that much difference either?

I suggest you buy a thai sim for your family to get in contact with you, but buy an international calling card (5 - 10 baht a minute to the states and Uk if i'm not mistaken but def cheaper than a regular sim card) for when you want to call your family back home. I used them when i first arrived here to keep in touch with friends overseas. I think it was called a hatari card or something along those lines, also sold in most 7/11's and the family marts.
