Hello
Hello everyone. I am planning a trip to Phuket in March of next year. I have not been there since I was in the US Navy in the early 1990's and am looking foward to getting back there. I have a couple questions:
1. When I was last there (1992) there was an area of outside bars in a big horseshoe shaped area called the "Circle of Death." Is this area still there and if so what is it called now?
2. Does the Navy still pull in into Phuket?
3. I m sure the hotels have all changed. Recommendations for ones that allow visitors without hassle and are close to or on the beach would be great. $100US would be a rate per night I am willing to pay.
Thanks and look foward to reading more this board.

Welcome to the board Kerry. Let me be the first to say this or ask this... Have you tried using the search function???
Don't know anything about "circle of death" but some of the veterans on here might/should know.
There is a thread on this forum for hotels, have a look at that. For your budget you can get quite a nice hotel room. So do some searching on the internet as well Thailand hotels, Hong Kong hotels, Singapore hotels, Japan hotels, Australia hotels You can always email the hotel to check if they are guest friendly or not. Just email then and keep their reply to avoid any complications when you arrive.
Happy Reading and enjoy your Holiday...

I searched the hotels but was unable to find which ones were guest friendly. The circle of death was a big circle of outside bars with names such as Duck and Dog that all had about 15 bar stools, played connect 4 and what have u. Just wondering if they are still there today or what that area is called.

Where about , in relation to Bangla , were these bars . Would give us a better idea if we know/knew them.

I think you're probably thinking of Soi Seapearl, it doesn't exist any more or not as it was back then, there are a few bars operating, but very little going on - sorry to disappoint you.

Perhaps The Irish Bar area Soi Dongtan
I would guess he is talking about the Irish Bar area.It is U shaped and was always a popular Navy hangout as it was on the beach road.
Soi Sea Pearl was not built back in 1992.

Hi hawkeye'
For your budget of $US100 a night, you can get a very nice hotel, that is guest friendly
Have a look at these three,all G/F
Salathai Resort, Patong Beach Phuket, Thailand - Reservation Service,By HOTEL THAILAND
Patong Hotel Rooms,Hotel Patong Villa Phuket Thailand.
Safaribeach Hotel - Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand
One little tip, when you have decided on a hotel, have a google for Phuket hotels, and go through the websites to get your best price. They can vary a great deal between sites. Finally, before booking, check back here on the forum and see if you can get BMs opinions on it,it may save a costly mistake.
Yes,the navy still visits Phuket, but not that often
