Care to comment on my itinerary?

Hi

Just wondering if BMs would like to comment on my itinerary?

In particular, whether you think I have a nice balance, or if you think I am under/over weight at any destination. (Yes, I know ultimately it is personal preference, but all comments are welcome.)

Things I like: Beach lifestyle, Thai food, the people, and the girls . I like to drink, but only enough to remain in control.

Things I dislike: Yobbish behaviour, pollution, pushy people

November-December 2006: Total nights = 22

1. Bangkok: 2 nights
2. Saigon: 4 nights
3. Pattaya: 4 nights
4. Hua Hin: 3 nights
5. Phuket: 9 nights (including maybe 1 night at Phi Phi)

If you want to see Saigon, up to you. But why going from Pattaya to Hua Hin? Both are seaside places, beach maybe better at Hua Hin, but night life better in Pattaya? Plus you will lose a day driving from Pattaya to Hua Hin.
Why not do Bangkok/Pattaya fly for 2 or three days to Chiang Mai and then Phuket.

Saigon definitely worth the effort, drop HH due to travel time involved

Thanks for comments.

My main reason for looking at Hua Hin is to "recharge" and have some quiet time after a hectic week in Saigon and Pattaya. Then to arrive in Phuket nice and fresh

But, yes takes a long time to get from Pattaya to Hua Hin

In March I went to Phuket for several days, with a one day excursion to Phi-Phi in the middle of the trip. I didn't check out from the Phuket hotel, when I went to Phi-Phi for a night. Whatever you do, don't try to bring too much luggage with you to Phi-Phi as local transportation is by long tail boats. The ferry does not dock at a pier. Luggage beyond a small suitcase will be a hassle, if you can manage to go with just a backpack even better.

Marc, would you stick to 3 nights in Patts and 3 in Hua Hin, or would you do 4 and 2?

Or do 4 and 3, and slice a night off Phuket?

Geez, I sound so indecisive here.....unlike me

5 hours for me is a day at the beach or playing golf. If you want something of your day you have to leave early, otherwise with checking in in the new hotel, unpacking and showering daylight is nearly gone.

This trip will be my 3rd time in LOS. Been to Samui, Bangkok and Phuket so far. I spent 8 nights in Phuket and it went far too quickly!

I have been using the search function a lot (this gets me points with IJ I reckon) and I have seen your thread about Hua Hin - some great information there, and that was the reason why I added it to this trip

well i've been to all places BU and think your itinerary is pretty balanced.........however ther really isn't much to do or parties to have (Apocalypse Now club is just about it apart from freelancers on the riverside....it is a far cry from Patts, Patong or even HH) in Saigon and you can't take a gal to your loom.....strictly a non no....ST looms only.....where are you staying???..pm me if you like...

are you planning to get out to the Mekong or anywhere close such as Dalat (hillside retreat town)......the tunnels will take most of one day.....a sightseeing tour around Saigon about half a day including the war museum (1 hour)......apart from that a night time rive cruise???........there are some neat furniture shops and French delis etc if you like to hang out in cafes....

If you don't like pollution + pushy people you may not like Saigon......it is supercrowded + will take you 10 minutes to cross the road....particularly on the riversided drive.....the viets aren't yobs but they do like a spit!!!....55555

But all your worries are taken away once you see one of those beautiful girls glide by on a honda with shoulder length silk gloves and one of those gorgeous silk cheung sam dresses on.....!!!!

I will also be going to SGN on my next trip. I will be staying at the "Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon" for a single night. I am not sure I will have much time, but I am always on the alert. Where would I go (bars, clubs, FL)? Since no LT, are there ST-hotels near Renaissance? Is it "legally safe"? As you can see I am near clueless about Ho Chi Minh.

yeah MrDK.....an absolute no no on the hotel front.....guaranteed you would get a big hassell if you tried...anyway the gals wouldn't go there with you.....they would be too scared of being reported....picking up is an underground operation in HCM City...

having said that if you sit on a bench on the riverside at night you will definitley be approached.....and there are a few bars/nightclubs etc along the riverside also but don't think you are likely to pull in their unless you get lucky.....pretty local scene.....not too many farangs about at all.....

apocalypse now is a surefire bet and an ok place to hang out + play pool/listen to the music and take in the scenery...... but be careful......watch your valuables.. the girls will try it on.....it's not LOS....but a hrader game altogether

If you hook up you will be taken to ST hotel....prices are probably $US40-50 for the whole experience........not really worth doin IMHO if just there for one night.....better to save yourself for LOS.......

I had a much better time with a couple of young Japanese princesses in the bar and in their hotel loom.....and all for free...so I also suggest checking out the 5 star hotel bars....

BTW Riverside Renaissance I think has a massage place near the pool where you can get a HJ for a bit of extra dong I seem to remember.....55555

Nelsonone, thank you for your explanations. I think I will take your advise and wait for BKK, besides I will have the opportunity to visit Orchard Tower in Singapore the day before. A relaxing massage at the Renaissance with no expectations would be welcome too. Thanks again.

Guys

Thanks for the quick comments.

My itinerary is now pretty much finalised. Although I may regret it, I decided to subtract 1 night from Phuket, and add 1 night to Pattaya. After coming back from Saigon, I've got the feeling I will want to go a little crazy! PLus I think I will take a whole day to go to Koh Samet from Pattaya. Still, I think 9 nights in Phuket is a nice amount of time. It might mean I leave out going to Phi Phi - no need to decide that yet.

Nelson, thanks for this.

Yes I realise the 'situation' with girls in Saigon and the hotels etc. It is a shame, because I think Viet girls are possibly the most beautiful in all of Asia.

But I am going to Vietnam more for sightseeing and culture. I have a good interest in war history, so the city and its museums will be very interesting for me. I am in Saigon for 3 whole days - first day will be spent looking around the city, second day out to Mekong Delta, third day out to Chu Chi tunnels and also to fire some automatic weapons on their shooting range! (I heard a rumour you can shoot some living cows there....this sounds horrible, but who am I to judge?).

By the end of the day I will be pretty tired, so maybe just interested in relaxing with a quiet beer or six in the city. Is there such a thing as a quiet beer in Saigon?! Hopefully I can find a quiet bar in District 1. As you said, there is always the ST option with a girl, or maybe a massage (with happy ending) if I need to relax a bit better during those 4 days. In fact, I think a couple of massages are certain.

I haven't booked a hotel in Saigon yet. Was looking at Que Huong Liberty 2 in District 1, which is a central location and only 5 minutes to Ben Thanh markets.

Was in Pattaya, last year, on a stopover from Cambodia..First time i have been back there in 6 years, 3 nights there sounds ok...but the beaches there are shiet, allthough the beach at Jomtien, is way better than the beachfront in Central pattaya...but i guess people dont go to pattay for the beaches

Remember if you plan to goto Ko samet, dont do it in a weekend, the place will be crammed with local thais making a weekend out....which means it can be difficult to get a room.

Hua Hin, is a quite place, much better beach than pattaya and suburbs...been there quite a few times, since my parents insist on living there 3 months a year to play golf. But as other have commented, why not try chiang mai instead, and fly directly into phuket from there.

Have fun on your trip.

PS: Vietnam is an adventure, you will like it there.

Hua Hin's great. I always base myself in Bangkok (courtesy of a company hotel) and HH's is a reasonable trip to do in one day, if you leave BKK early in the morning. I have got up at 6.a.m driven to HH, spent the day at the beautiful beach, and been back in the nightlife of BKK by 10.00pm. That would perhaps be my only variation on your itinerary... looks like a great trip though!

Thanks mate. It's all locked in now - as per my original post.

Can't wait! (ie. too long a wait)

Am travelling solo, which will be a different experience.

PS: Do you chill at Hua Hin, or travel just a bit further to somw of the other beaches - Khao Tao or Suan Son.
