The best way is to use the search
The 2nd best way is by taxi straight from the new airport which now takes under two hours and often closer to an hour and a half. I've heard a couple of stories actually where you can now get to pattaya faster than some make it to their hotel in BKK.

I always try to travel from BKK to Pattaya on a Sunday.
It seems to be less traffic on that day than the rest of the days seem to be quit conjested

If your staying at one of the Dynasty hotels in BKK their free shuttle has been very nice (mini van w/ac) and there are 2 places to chose from in Pattaya also. My fav is the Dynasty resort on the hill over Pattaya though my friends who are cheap and always on the prowl usually stay in town. (smaller rooms & more noise)
the staff at the resort is very good. cya

Information On Thailand - classroom agogo airport taxi service
Where to stay...up to you, many places.

Talbotman
MY MATE paul has just returned 2 days ago he told me the following it took him 50 minutes to travel by taxi from the new airport to the penthouse hotel in the middle of pattaya.
i know from my own experinces if you take the toll road it usually takes you 1 hour 45 minutes from a hotel on sukhumvit road bangkok to reach pattaya by taxi
i have done the bkk -pattaya trip a couple of times by bus 65bhat from ekamai staion on sukhumvit road to be honest its more trouble than its worth i sugest getting a taxi form your bangkok hotel the 2 hotels i use the HONEY HOTEL SUKHUMVIT SOI 19 AND THE FAMOUS NANA hotel both charge 1600 bhat another option if you stay at the nana is to use their mini bus service it departs 3 times a day 0830 -1430--1730 to pattaya it takes you to the nipa lodge hotel on central road then you gewt a bhat bus direct to your hotel price including bhat bus is 300 bhat

Whats your budget ???????? hard to sell you a hotel room, without that info.
As the other BM's state, between 1.30 hours to 2 hours...depending on traffic.
Have not tried it from the new airport to patts.
A stay in the Sugar Hut...thats good and classy.but if your on a tight budget...there are nicer hotels in the area.
Welcome To Sugar Hut Resort - Pattaya City Jomtien Road - Thailand
But again use the search function or this.
Thailand Hotels and Resorts, Pattaya.
Enjoy.

I always stay at the Sabai Lodge on Soi 2. Have been there last week again. They have the best Sawainam to hang around - my absolute favorite. Yes, you can actually enjoy your drink & ziggy together with your girl in the pool ;-)
Great staff, nice and in-expensive rooms and great food. There're a lot of nice beer bars around and you have the chance to cover the complete range of Soi's on the way up to Walking Street.
