A weekend in Bangkok

All,

I'm after some advice for what to do with a weekend in Bangkok. I know that this board is principally about Phuket and Patong, but I hope that some here can offer some advice.

At the start of December I'm coming to Thailand for a few weeks. My first weekend will be spent in Bangkok, arriving on Friday and departing on Monday morning to Phuket. That weekend, I'll be staying with 'my' Thai girl who I met in Patong back in March this year (she lives in BK and was on holiday when we met). We're staying in an expensive hotel, so the luxury should be a pleasant change for her, but I'm wondering what to do during the day/evening when we're not at it like bunnies!

I've looked at various tourist websites about Bangkok, and they seem to concentrate on temples and museums - neither of which interest me! What else is there to do? I know that we could go shopping, but as she lives there I presume that she knows where to go anyway. Somebody suggested that I should take her shopping for underwear (known as a 'win-win' event ) but I'd like some other suggestions.

If all goes according to plan I'll be in the MTB during the evening of Dec 4th, so I'll let you know what we did!

Well if it was me,

Friday night, NEP and/or Cowboy
Saturday, I would hit The Crocodile Farm. Always enjoy a visit here
Saturday night, book a river dinner cruise. Tell the GF to book ahead
Sunday, Panthip (for me hours spent here) and then down to MBK
Sunday night, NEP and/or Cowboy

Pepsi,

A few years back I did a dinner cruise on the Loy Nava. Price was around 3,000 baht per person. I was with a farang woman so it was kind of a "date" type thing. It's a teakwood barge with a romantic setting, Thai dancers and music. More food than you can eat.

One of the partners in the business walks around and broadcasts through a microphone all the wats, bridges, etc. that are magnificently lit up at night and gives you a brief history lesson. Comes with a map too. 2 to 3 hour cruise IIRC.

If you are on your own, there are plenty of party boats with bands playing and drinks flowing (actually more of these).

I think a river cruise at night is one of those BKK "must do at least once" things.

The TanMan
