I believe that the age of concent in Thailand in 15 (or 16), however, Thai law specifies that the age of consent for sex work is 18.

Leading with such a provocative question, whilst a fair enough enquiry, as your first post on the board will not put you in a postiive light with most other members on here.

It is generally good protocol to at least post a little introduction about yourself and your interest in Phuket/Thailand in the newbies forum. You will find that this will have a very positive influence on your experience on this board.

18 and over, matty, or you might have a free stay in one of His Majesty's jails.

Or a great deal worse if her Thai family get hold of you ... including huge financial re-imbersement for lost of face and if they really get nasty could end up in hospital or the crematorium.

Ok cheers appreciate that, and i was just wondering if i was going to thialand for say 15 days but i dont want to spend all my time partyin like mad where is another place that would be good to go? i want to say have 10 days of partying and then relax somewhere else. Ive heard you can get nice massges (normal) etc on the beach ?

And what are the best places for partying? and i was looking at a budget of 5k australian dollars would that be sufficient?

Welcome to the board Matty.....

Thats a decent budget - all depends on how you spend it ..... there is tons of info already here - would suggest do a search for specific questions and then if needed BM's will offer ideas/advice. Pattaya is party central - Phuket is more mellow and great beaches - diving etc.

Best place for info is Mai Tai Bar - see Nicke or any the other BM's when you here and you'll sure have a great trip.

Good luck mate.

IMHO I believe that A$5K is more than plenty enough for 15 days - you can spend more by living it up! You'll find most things a fraction of the price you'd expect to pay in Melbourne town.

In Patong, Bangla Rd - party HQ

If you like beaches ?.. any of the islands accessed from Phuket would be nice to chill out on. Yep, normal massages are available on the beaches & also in normal massage shops too! - expect to pay between 200 / 300 baht

Don't know where you heard that but its not correct or a common occurance. I think travelling alone is always the best way to have a good time in LOS. As a single unit more people talk to you and you get to know more people quicker, also can make your own plans as and when you want to do something.

I doubt that there is much truth to that (don't have any stats). In general Thailand is very safe. Scams and pick-pocketing like being the most likely crime you will face. Being vigilant is always a good advise no matter where you go. Leave valuables you don't need in the hotel safe. Carry just the amount of cash you need and preferably in smaller bills.
I have been to BKK several time and have never had an incident even remotely close to trouble. I have, however, been approached several times where scamming was the mission. Typically these scams revolve around selling you stuff that is fake or over priced. Often the technique is to get you on a ride (like Tuk-tuk) at a great price. Do a search on Google for Scam Thailand and you will get some education there.

Matty,
Make sure you look at the scale. On my map it is only 3 inches.
BTW, it is possible to fly from Phuket to Pattaya, however, with the new airport in BKK it seems to be the consensus that traveling via BKK is better.
