Is that a 'we' or a 'him' ?????? Or does he have the power of the "Royal we", like the Queen does here in England?

4k is a tight budget if including airfare, can be done I suppose.

2 days in Singapore is plenty, not the cheapest of places either got a bill for 1k sing for dinner and a couple botttles of wine once.

Thailand can be cheap if you budget, stay in cheap guesthouses etc. food is inexpensive, hang at the beach for entertainment and don't drink like a fish you should be right.

LOL I actually suggested it, cause I'm starting to think after we have lived together for a month or two we won't want to travel together.

Our nightly accommodation budget is no higher than $30 p/n each. In BKK, Sin & KL we are planning on staying in Backpackers. Phuket and Chiang Mai are the only places we planning on staying in hotels/resort kind of places.
And we plan on eating the local/street vendor food.

See how I still feel about doing the travel with him in January....he told me tonight that he may have someone else interested in coming with us (him)... someone I think he's thinking of dating...now that is gunna make it interesting!! lol If he's going to put me out to a room on my own...he's going to pay for the privledge lol

Anyway..I'm going to stop whinging now lol I shouldn't use this as a counselling session!

4k AUS budget all in is going to be damned tight unless you can get a dirt cheap airfare. It's a lot harder to live cheap on your first time, a lot of people make the mistake of budgeting accomodation then only at looking how cheap the street vendor food is and multiplying up. I assume you want to do stuff while there like go on the daytrips and you're already paying a lot for all this travelling around. Just getting a taxi to and from the bus station could be over your food spend and these small amounts can really add up.

To be honest I would think about cutting elements from your tour certainly KL and Singapore. You could end up trying to do so much on this one trip that you don't have the funds to "experience" these locations other than to say you've been there.

Eljay,
Hope you don't think we're raining on your parade but it's time to do the reality check on your budget, probably based (just to be safe) on assuming that you're travelling alone.

As Brit says, airfare is key. Starting with the $880AUD for the Sydney/BKK flight you will be up to about $1500AUD in airfare costs if you include the side trips to Singapore, KL & Chiang Mai. That leaves an average of 2000 Baht/day
($72AUD/day) and that just won't cut it. For example, a Phi Phi jetboat daytrip is about 3000 Baht per person.

Anyway I'll leave my math lesson right now and I'm sure you'll figure the rest out. If you keep your itinerary to Thailand, it should work for you because then the airfare is manageable. Phuket to Bangkok is only 1700 baht on Fly123 airlines & their other Thai routes are cheap too.
You can still have a fantastic trip but you don't want to get back to Oz and be paying off your credit card bills for years to come!

Hmmmm you certainly have given me a lot to think about! I posted on thorntree months and months ago and they said I'd shit it in lol
Its good to have others point of views especially from people who have been there and done that!
I was really really looking forward to seeing Singapore. I had already decided to cut out KL, but was still hoping to get to see Singapore for 3 days.
*sigh* lol and I thought I had just about figured out my plans lmao
Well..back to the drawing board, I will give it some more thought and play around with the dates again.
See what I come up with then.
Thanks for all the advice!!

I am a firm believer that a holiday spent living like a pauper or beggar on the street is no holiday at ALL!!!
Not being able to cut sick every now and then, when the situation arises would break my heart!!!
I was going through my finances, this morning, as I can't stay away from LOS for very much longer without going crazy, and had to come to a compromise of staying only 3 weeks instead of my usual 4.
The airfare stays about the same ($A 1100.00 incl taxes, from perth) but the hotel bills and living expenses are cut way down!!!
This way I can go again later in the year, when the craziness comes back!!!!
Maybe you could consider the same sort of thing especially as it is your first big trip??? I have found that once you start travelling, it is awfully hard to stop!!!! Going to a great place like LOS only makes it worse!!!!
