New BM, Intro and questions...to much? lol
Hiya everyone,
My name is Lorree and I'm from Australia. I'm female and 34.
I have never really travelled before (a shame I know, trust me)
I am planning on coming to Thailand in April 07.
I am coming with a friend of mine but he's just learnt that he only got 2 weeks off for his trip. So I maybe doing the last 2 weeks on my own...or he might quit his job, who knows .
I have 3 questions, I hope this is not to much to ask...but I just can't seem to find the answers I'm after
My questions are this....
1st: When we make it down to Phuket, we are planning on spending 7 days on Kata. We love a bit of night life, a few drinks, lots of swimming, relaxing, character etc.. but like to sleep peacefully at night, does Kata sound like the best option? or should be go closer to Patong or maybe Karon?
2nd question... should we go to Krabi as well as spending the 7 days on Phuket. We will be doing the overnight stay to Phi Phi doing the starlight cruise/canoe trip. We also want to do emerald cave, is Krabi the best place to stay for that?
3rd: Or should we miss the andaman side all together and just go to Koh Samui?? I've been told that Samui will be better in May than Phuket due to rough seas. But I have been told so many conflicting stories, I really don't know where to go. The rain doesn't bother me, but I want to be able to swim on the beaches.
We are on limited time as we arrive in BKK on April 24 and fly back out on May 28th. And need to get in 7 days in Chiang Mai (ENC for 3 days and 2 day cooking class), Phuket, maybe krabi and then KL and Singapore for a few days each.
I hope I haven't bombared you all to much
Thanks for any information, Its really appreciated!!
Lorree

Welcome to the board Eljay
I was the same on my first trip, had a friend for the first 2 weeks and enjoyed it a lot but we always stuck together and did not meet many more people, when he left i had 2 weeks to go, so i was forced into meeting different people and i enjoyed it even more, sorry i cant help you with your questions but i am sure you will enjoy your time in LOS.
just thought i would respond because some people get angry when many people look at a thread and get no replys.
maybe see you there in April,
Simon
p.s someone more usefull will be along shortly

Hi Simon
Thanks so much for the reply!!
I have no idea what my travel buddy is going to do, I won't find out until the end of the week.
In one way I'm hoping he comes with me, for the company and its cheaper going twin share.
But I'd also like time on my own, I'm a fairly shy person at first so I don't know if I would make new friends easily. I'm not the kind of person that can walk into a room and just go over to someone and say "hi.."..I'm ok if they do it to me tho lol
I hope someone does help me, I've posted on 3 forums now and so far, not much has come back to me...actually your it, I think lol
Are you going to be there in April to are you? Well I'll actually be in Phuket around May 5th I think.
Cheers
Lorree

Welcome to the board Eljay.
I recently spent a month in LOS, BKK and Phuket. I went on my own and had the time of my life! I know its different for Females traveling alone, but I hope it wouldn't be too much different in LOS for girls...
I am a big fan of Beaches and swimming myself. I can recommend Phuket for this... Beautiful beaches all over the place!
I made it down to Kata and Karon whilst exploring the Island on a wee motorbike. They are very close to Patong, 7 or 8 km approx... Kata was very quite when I was there (last sept), there didn't seem to be anything happening as regards nightlife...
I went out to Phi Phi from Patong for one night, costed about 1000 bt for the minibus and the ferry... Phi Phi is very beautiful and relaxing, but I didn't think much of the nightlife over there... But then again that's just my opinion.
I reckon you should come to Phuket with your mate anyway... You will have two weeks to check the place out and decide for yourself. Head over to the Mai Thai Bar in Patong and introduce yourself to Nicke and Ead. They are cool people who could give you good advice... There's always a few BM's knocking about too...
Can't wait to get back myself.... Soon thats for sure!
Have a good trip!

hi lorree
I spent 10 days in krabi August 2004, stayed in Ao Nang bay it is the quieter cousin of phuket.although it has recently become quite popular,I found it a bit boring ,the only thing I really enjoyed was a day at the emerald cave to which we went through the lagoon by kayak.also some nice litte beaches.. yes it is the best place for that.
you can either stay in patong and have your relax at night just choose a place/hotel 10 minutes at wlking distance from bangla road.
ko samui, then chiang mai, singapore??? c'mon lorree little by little, just take it easy.

Lorree:
Welcome to the board. As mentioned earlier nightlife on Phi Phi Islands is not very good, however, the scenery is spectacular. When I went there (with company) it was for a single night; I wish I had made it two.
A popular way to see the islands is by hiring a long tail boat. I believe I paid in the neighborhood of 1500 baht for six hours, which turned out to be nearly 7. We were given a map of the islands with all the beaches, snorkeling areas, etc. Simply told the boat driver where to go - it was awesome. We spend most of the day of arrival on the long tail boat and the next day was too short. Phi Phi is a great place for two to be romantic (and get away from the night life).
I have attached a few pics from Phi Phi Islands.

Wow, thanks for all the welcomes everyone!!
This is the most response I've had in any forum lol
As of this afternoon, my friend was going to quit his job so he could come over for the 35 days. But that might change..again lol
I'm hoping I get some 'me' time while I'm there!
So the plan is so far to:
Bangkok (1 night) - chiang Mai (7 nights) and for my birthday hehehe - Tiger Temple etc..(over night) Bangkok (1 night)- Phuket (7 nights) Phi Phi (2 nights) - Singapore (3 nights) - KL (3 nights) - Bangkok (3 nights)...this is a rough plan...and I'm sure it will get revised daily due to sickness lol I'm willing to bet within 3 days I'll be permanently glued to the loo lol
I have been wanting to do this trip for so long!... I can't wait!! I'm so excited!!
This is my first trip and probably my last, my mortgage & bills seem to take all my money Even this time just everything is going on my credit cards!
Trust me, when I get there I will be popping in to the bar to say hi!
Hmmm...My picture eh?? lol you don't want to see it ! lol

Looks like you'll have a good trip , only thing , looking at your plans you're going to spend about half of it travelling. Maybe better to cut out a couple of the stops and have a bit more time to relax .

Lorree...........7 months is a long time.
What part of NO doesn't this guy understand??
For once I agree with that dumbass Faulty. ...........Spend more time relaxing.
I'd be dropping Phi Phi & Singapore & KL off my list..................But I am a wee bit biased.
Whatever ya decide do............Have a great one & get ya bum down to MTB & make some new friends in Phuket.

Hi Eljay,
Understand that you're a bit apprehensive about an ambitious tour like this,
but you're going to love it! I did a 14 day trip to Bangkok (3 days), Phuket (8 days) & Hong Kong (2 days) in October - it was my first Asian trip and I met up with a buddy in Phuket but was on my own for the rest of the time. You may end up with the best of both worlds if you're solo for half the time - it's amazing how easy it is to meet up with other travellers when you are doing the tourist scene on your own!
Have to agree with some of the other BM's that you may want to avoid flying any more than necessary. The wear & tear is accumulative and you will find that even more since you say you're a "rookie" traveller. Suggest you keep playing with your plan & you will end up with a tour that's relaxing but | |
