Greetings From Another Newbie
Greetings to you all, I have only just returned to the UK after my first trip to LOS, it was supposed to be the holiday of a lifetime but unfortunately ended up a bit of a disaster, but that's life.
I split up with my missus 6 months ago after many years and decided to pick a place I always wanted to go to, which was Thailand, I went on my own as all my mates are married and not allowed to go anywhere but down to Tesco on their own and I'm not shy so off I went for what started out as 2 weeks.
I got to Bangkok, had 5 top notch days and nights of the usual and unusual, then collapsed in my hotel one night and woke up the next afternoon in Bumrungrad not knowing what had happened. The hotel manager visited me and said the maid found me next morning lying in my own puke and called an ambulance. I had an emergency operation, lost a vital organ complete with gallstones you could mistake for patpong pingpong balls, and had 2 more organs repaired and spent almost a month recovering before I was allowed to fly back. I have just returned to work and of course the boys and girls just love the rumour that I had returned as Martine the ladyboy, but I feel much better, funny I do buy flowers now and keep the house much tidier though so I hope the surgeons didn't do anything wrong.
I have just bought a return ticket for 3 weeks at the end of January to go back and have my proper holiday, this time I hope to enjoy it for what it is and have a LT experience instead of the ST one forced upon me. Great website with loads to read, thanks for reading my first thread.
The lads just think I am going back for a reversal

Neon,
Welcome to the board and sorry to hear about your unfortunate conclusion to your trip, but good to hear that you are going back.
The fact that you are returning (I guess) is a testimonial to the fact that the medical care was acceptable or better.
There has been some discussion on this board lately concerning travel medical insurance; what was your situation in this regard?

Thank You for such a warm welcome to this site I am very grateful.
MrDK, regarding the health care I received all I can say is it was 101% fantastic, the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, the hospital was the cleanest I have ever seen and as much as I hate to say it, makes those I have been in within the UK look disgusting and shameful. I know it is a private hospital but even so I doubt they will ever have the super-bug problems that UK hospitals seem to have and it is all down to the cleanliness and efficiency of the staff who are outstanding, on my last day all the staff came to my room and presented me with a DVD of my operation, brilliant touch, the lads came round my house the other night and managed the 1st few minutes of it but it is disgusting and they looked sicker than I did when I was in hospital.
I was lucky with my travel insurance as it is obtained through my employment at a discounted rate which is enabled through a group scheme (Not Group Sex Unfortunately) so I can't really say if it is comparable with other schemes or not, however I paid for my treatment via credit card and received a cheque yesterday for the full amount claimed including the interest caused by the payment method so I have no complaints with them. I will be putting some of this money aside for next months 2nd attempt at the holiday of a lifetime.
I wonder what my Gallbladder fetched on eBay for the Surgeon. Perhaps I can lose a kidney next time, in fact that might be the way to beat any Visa issues, eventually my whole body will remain in Bumrungrad and I wont have to go back to the UK, brilliant !!

Sense of humour is intact and at the ready. The night before I collapsed I didn't do anything unusual, and the surgeon told me that it didn't matter where I was or what I was doing, it was going to happen then and there, it was just plain old bad luck, I hope not to repeat next month. The biggest downside for me personally has been the weight loss, it had taken me years of weight training to achieve such a dynamic physique at McDonald's Gym, up two three, bite two three, down two three Yummy !!!

If you're here end of January I might run into you with a bit of luck. Call in at MTB anyway, there's always a few BMs around.

after a few days in bkk get a plane down to patong/phuket and meet some of the other bm's in the mtb or love bar.
also when you are in bkk keep your eyes peeled for a little specky soup slurping monger called alfie.
how much they charge you for the dvd

Thanks for all your terrific replies, I have to say I am really enjoying this site there is just so much to read through and it is a goldmine of info. I have got my flight tickets now with Etihad for next month cost £437 all incl, flew with Qatar last time and they were brilliant, I expect the middle eastern airline companies are all fairly similar and to be honest I look at them as a means to getting where I want to be, and they might even let me sit inside the plane this time !!
I don't think I will return to the same hotel, The D'ma Pavillion is a great place but a noticeable distance from Sukhumvit/Nana/Cowboy etc, and during the few days I did spend enjoying myself I just hated disapointing the 300 taxi drivers who swamped me everytime I stepped outside who wanted to take me to get a suit, I am not really a suit kinda guy if you know what I mean. I am going to trawl through the huge hotel list on this site and then decide, it will involve a trip elsewhere this time so will choose another hotel during the trip and hope to bump into some of you good people, in an effort to broaden my life experience which is what it's about, take care, cheers.

Welcome Neon
Good story and a fine example of why even on holiday it is wise to have medical insurance.
Thailand is getting a share of the medical tourism industry and your comparrison UK facilities to out here are spot on.Also the staff are more pretty.
Keep your chin up.Hope to meet you if you get to Patong.
