Newby says Hi!

Hello All,

As you might guess from the "Hi", I am a US citizen. I hope to be living in the LOS - Phuket version, within the next year and a half. I've visited Thailand many times and will be in Phuket for my 2nd visit next month.

I have been reading your forums and picking up a lot of good info. I look forward to meeting some of you in the near future.

Two quick questions if I may.

How hard is it to bring firearms into Thailand?

I have a .308 sniper rifle, a .416 Rem Mag, and a Sig P229. One of my hobbies is dangerous game hunting in Africa and I would like to continue that from my base in Phuket.

Is it possible for a farang to legally hunt wild game in the LOS?
In parts of the country they have an amazing variety of deer, hogs,
etc.

At any rate, I hope to see you someday

PS They don't happen to sell Newcastle Brown Ale on the Ko, do they? Ah, the damage I've done to my poor liver drinking pint after pint (who am I kidding - case after case) of that wonderfull brew!

Cheers.

Hi and welcome to the board...

As far as bringing firearms into the country - I'm not certain if its possible or not.

To own a gun here you need to get a licience - it is possible to get this through a gun club (Nicke and me here are members of the Kathu Shooting Range) - membership is 2000 Baht/year and they can apply for a licince for you. However as a farang you would only be permitted to keep you gun at the range (as BM Lightemup here does).

I've not heard of farangs shooting game in Thailand - certainly seen locals with shot guns out in the rubber - so presume it does go on.

Newcastle Brown is about to go on sale here - not cheap as its and import, so you expect priced 180-200Bhat.

Good luck with your move over.

Cool Dangerous games

The only dangerous game I know about is down on Bangla.

Thailand does not have any wild animals that are hunted.Your guns would have to be kept in a military armoury - if allowed at all.

Newcastle Brown is coming soon and some Brit bars will get it in.
