Hua Hin
Guys, moving to Hua Hin soon. Can anybody help with info generally about the expat scene and the practicalities like renting a house, wheels, entertainment, safety etc? Thanks.

Hua Hin? same same as the kings place?
Uhmmm, A few friends stayed there in Nov/Dec and found it to be a wonderful place. Very quiet compared to the likes of Patong/Phuket/Bangkok - even Chiang Mai, but a lovely place all the same.
Safety is pretty much the norm up there, after all if the King and the Royal family are in residence the last thing anyone wants is a problem in town.
Nightlife, from what I heard back, was a little slow and more difficult to find than in some of the pre-mentioned locations, but there are still a few bars all the same who can accomodate your needs, if that's what you are looking for, otherwise there are plenty which are quite literally just bars, for the odd drink, nothing more.
From the various sources who have mentioned it, it is the sort of place you visit when you have a partner - not one you go to looking for one..
You say you are moving there? as in to live, work? please do tell

Thanks Viper. Yes, the King's place, although I doubt I will move next door.
I'm an expat working 28/28 (oil, what else) and have moved around a bit looking for a prfect location for my off-shifts (Cyprus, Dominican Republic, Canaries...). I'm into water sports like wind/kite surfing, also would like to work on my golf and Hua Hin sounds like it has the lot. I have a long-term European girlfriend who will join me there some of the time but I may need to look for an occassional Thai massage when she's not there....Again, Hua Hin without the "in your face" Pattaya/ Phuket nightlife might just be the spot for an ST or two when required.

Well fair play Basil111,
Wish I had followed a few different paths, and could have go into the offshore business. The thought of 28/28 is just to appealling these days, oppossed to the 365/1 5555555555555555
Sure you will love the place

Thanks all you top guys who replied with very helpful info.
Yes, hard to beat 28/28, a bit hard on the old body though. You win some you lose some...
