Newbi Intro from Boulder US
Hey guys I never officially intorduced myself even though I have been reading and leaving posts for at least a year now. I left a very long first trip report and went to send it and my comp crahsed so I got disguridged and did not type it again. I plan on leaving it while I am there, had the classic LB experince or pre- experince at least. No adams apple and man it took a while till I figured it out. No prob with em just not my cup of tea. Anyway I am in my 30s and am from Boulder CO. I have been to Ko Samui, Ko Tao and BKK on my first trip and this year I am going to Patts, Ko lanta and Patong. I will be in Patts from 24th Feb - March 2nd and Patong from March 8th - 13th. I am traveing alone and am looking for some mates to do a little bar crawling with so private message me if you will be in LOS during this time and I will buy you a drink I found Ko Samui to be a little tame so I know Pattaya and Patong will blow my mind. I ride motorcycles and will be bringing my gear so I can do a little sport bike riding in Patong. Any bikers out there? Yes I know I have a death wish And why are they all drinving on the wrong side of the raod anyways, no offense Brits Anyway drop me line and lets go hunting. And please feel free to ask me any ?ns about my first trip Ko Toa and Samui since there is not as much info on those places.

Welcome to the board bloke. You will find plenty of guys to drink with at MTB, just go along and say hi.
With bikes I would say be careful, particularly the big ones. Have a look at the RTA stats, not pretty. You will also find that many of the bikes will be poorly maintained high powered death traps.
The roads are mostly good, but Thai driving standards leave a bit to be desired and you often find sand / mud / dogs / drunks in your path. Sportsbikes don't make a lot of sense around Phuket. Good luck with that if you are determined.

Welcome to the board and thanks for the thorough introduction. As Steve said head for MTB, at least for an introduction.
With the winter that you have had in Colorado this year, I assume your are ready to go any moment.

Hes this is the worst winter in ages. Shite, I am even a snowboarder and am tired of snow. We have had 8 feet in the last month and lots of days below zero. It is not liek this area, what is going on in this worlds climate??? We usally have lots of 50 degree sunny days (300 a year to be exact)perfect for riding your motorcycle all winter. And yes thanks for the info on bikes. Maybe I should just leave my gear so I am not tempted but I Ride a Ducati and would like a little bike time. Cheers I iwll come by the MTB bar FOR SURE!

Welcome to the board Bodi, hope to read your trip report soon. If we are ever in LOS at the same time I would be happy to drink a cool one with you.

Wecome bodmila from another newby. About bikes, if you're going any distance take a basic toolkit. The hirers don't know s##t about maintenance. The Kawa I hired needed a day's work before I felt safe to drive faster than 30mph and I needed two more days to wash out all the oil.

Yes I was not going to bring a tool kit and your right the bieks I rode there were not that well mantined, to say the least. I was on Koa toa do some pretty fun off roading with an ATX 250. THis time I will bring all my gear and do some sport riding around Phuket.

hey bodimila,
I live in Broomfield and ride a cruiser and I just got back from Phuket (2nd trip in 2 years). It's not a place for sport riding. The roads are extremely crowded, and most people use little scooters (75-125cc) to weave in and out of the obstacles (taxis, buses, vans, trucks, etc.).
It's a great place to visit, but a horrible place to ride a fast or big motorcycle (especially for a newby).
If you really want to ride a bigger motorcycle, I would head up north to Phitsanaluk or someplace. (Although, I don't remember seeing any real big bikes (some expat may have a 650cc cruiser or something similiar).
Good luck and enjoy year trip!
