Question July; Kata/Karon vs Chawng?

Hello!
We are planning a trip to Thailand.
We have been thinking Phuket (Kata or Karon areas since the Patong seems to be too busy) or maybe Samui Chaweng.

Any comments what is "best" in July?
Is Phuket much more rainy than Samui?
Or are they both almost same with the rain?

And comments about the price levels?
Is Samui (Chaweng) much more expencive than Kata/Karon (restaurants+tailors...)?

We are hoping to get a good holiday since we have been saving money for such a long time...

Thank you for helping!!
Can't wait for July+Thailand!!

July low and rainy season in Phuket......dry and high season in Samui......not that this wil make that much difference as you can be lucky or unlucky in either place with rain...........

Price will be like chalk and cheese.........kata/Karon much cheaper

If you are coming with a partner Kata would be a good choice for beach activities over the nightlife ones

Hope you are a good bargainer if you are taking on the tailors

I stayed in Kata last July for 1 week. It didn't rain at all during the day and just for a bit one night. the prices at the Kata hotels were very reduced from the high season. I booked on latestays.com and got good rates. I stayed at Lamia Beach on Samui on my first trip to thailand. I think the beaches in Phuket are superior to those on samui.

Chaweng is similar to business as Patong. Try looking at Lamai in Samui, much more chilled but plenty to do

Do you mean hotel prices? Or prices in generally (eating + shopping + tailor made clothes) are cheaper in Kata/Karon?

We don't really have experience for bargaining...
So this will be firt time to try shopping with bargaining...

Ok, we are going to stay about from 8.7 - 25.7...
The hotels in Phuket are very nice priced in the low season period...

Low season refers to prices for hotels....eating won't differ at all but tailors may be easier/more desperate to give you better prices than when there are loads of tourists/potential business around

I am not a big fan of samui beaches.........chaweng is nothing special.......Nai Harn, Surin, Kat + Karon.all on Phuket........are all much nicer beaches than Chaweng IMHO
