Hmm, personally I'd do it the other way round. That way you don't have to lugg all the shopping around with you, you've a better idea of how much money you've got, you look less like a pale faced just got off the boat plesase rip me off tourist and you are super chilled and relaxed so just let the mayhem wash over you ... just a thought.

One more thought - if it7s brand names you are after the realy good fakes have dissapeared from the street stalls. Ask around and you'll get taken to some sort of strong room where the really good knock of LV, Prada et al is being hidden.

I loved Bangkok.. I was there for 5 days and could have spent another 5 days there no problem.

Shopping was good but I found alot of the malls were same same. I did like I think it is called Siam Paragon but it seemed half empty of shops... or is that half full???

We caught a taxi from Sukhumvit Rd to Grand Palace and it only cost 150 baht (inclusive of tip).. But you could get to the Water ferry by Skytrain and go up the river to visit Wat Pho and Grand Palace and Khao San Road amongst others. I think if you start this early, for 100 Baht you can get a day pass on the water ferry up and down... This cuts out all the traffic jams also.

Some people did advise me 5 days was too long in Bangkok... I have to disagree.... There is so much I missed out. But I do love visiting cities. Bangkok is one of my favourites now along with Buenos Aires!

Just found the info..... The Water Ferry is called Chao Phraya Express Boat and it is at the end of the Silom Line by Taksin Bridge and the BTS station is called Saphan Taksin.

They give you a little guide book and it tells you how to get to each place. Grand palace is about 300 metres away from the Maharaj Pier.

We spent a day doing this and had a great day visiting the leaning Buddha (Wat Pho), Grand Palace, etc

Pic 1 - Catch this to Saphan Taksin station (s6)
pic 2 - catch ferry from here
pic 3 - Visit something like this!

Blog401 - You are a mind reader

Also great to hear other alternatives than hiring a tour guide all the time. Still debating whether to do so only to get some history on the places we go that might not be available at the attractions themselves.

Of course, PadMc, no offence taken. Anyway, the guy wanted input and he's getting both views free. What do you think? Send him a bill?
