Hi from Japan
Hi all
Just a quick first post to say hello. I've been reading posts for a while but finally registered.
English guy living in Japan. I've been visiting Thailand for holidays best part of 20 years. I've done plenty of other vacations in Asia and beyond (Bali, Malasia, HK, Singpore, Mexico, Europe, Seychelles, Polynesia) but the more places I visit the more I compare them unfavourably with LOS. So these days it's no contest.
Usually rotate between Samui, Phuket & Phi Phi with a couple of days either end in Bangkok. Had my second wedding on the beach in Samui couple of years back.
Long term plan, earn enough Japanese yen to retire somewhere in LOS next to the ocean.
I'm off to Samui again early May 2007 so maybe I'll post some Qs nearer the time.
thanx for all who take time to share their news & views on here. Very useful and a great way to while away the office hours.
be lucky

Welcome to the board Blog-
JPY looking pretty today ... be interested to hear your thoughts on how things are in Japan. (Rather on economy than p4p).
Best wishes, K2.

Actually, agianst "heavt weight" currencies, USD, Euro, GBP the JPY is as bad as I can remember.
Overall though economy is as healthy as I have seen it in 10 years, many false dawns but maybe this time the improvement is for real. Not sure about the new PM though, Koizumi he most defintely isn't!

Thanks Blog - I also like Japan, think has leaned its businesses up a lot over last 10 years and is in very strong position.
JPY is very undervalued and since last week the 'carry trade' is being unwound so JPY ~4.5% strong vs. euroland CCYs. Would suggest next round will be sell off in asian scufflers (PHP, THB, NTD, KRW, SGD, MYR) against the JPY.

Ha ha, just looked up P4P in the abbreviations (so I'm a newbie, shoot me).
Japan has it's moments that's for sure.

I'll hear the thoughts on the P4P side. Have you cracked the japanese side of the scene?

More diverse, a multi national industry. More perverse, if you've got a fetish they've got a bar that caters. Controlled by some very heavy people. At the high cost end v. interesting and entertaining, but also a very depressing trafficking element at the bottom end. Also, mainly for domestic consumption - if you ain't Japanese don't expect to be welcomed with open arms every where.

Nah, like anywhere, you learn what works, what doesn't, adjust accordingly, move on. It still beats a wet weekend in Brighton hands down.

Good luck with getting that ¥. I wouldn't say no to a wheelbarrow load of it myself...

Many thanx to you and others for the welcome. If I've got something useful to add I'll add it. Said it earlier, I enjoy the site very much.Next trip is samui which doesn't see much coment here (or anywhere) but some truths are universal.
I do have one or two specific questions of a strategic nature but I'll save them for a later date. Right now just feeling welcome is a good feeling.

B401-There is another thread about japanese women and thai men. What is the fascination with men of color for these women? Or with you for that matter?

Hi Pinot
As a general rule Japanese people always strike me as very inquisitive - maybe they are the same about sex!?
