Shopping
8 days to go and counting
I was wondering, i am planning on getting a few suits made, buy some other clothes etc. Are the prices cheaper in bangkok or Phuket? Also, what is the going rate of a suit these days?

From my own experiences, I found the costs lower in Phuket compared to Bangkok, but the best place for me has been Pattaya so far.
Prices are largely up to you and how much you want to barter for. You obviously have to remember that the more you knock the price down, the more chance there will be of them not giving their best. Although having said that I have never yet had any complaints from all the places that I have used.
If this is your first experience of dealing with tailors in Thailand, then I would suggest you be a little careful and have a good look around. If you do a search on the forum here, you will find a few old threads where people have given their input and named some places that they feel are worthy of a visit.

Well i know many people see this topic different. On my trips to thailand 3 times i bought suits. Not only from tourist place tailors and i was never happy with my decision. I think it´s better to buy one suit here in europe than 3 tailored suits in thailand, even it´s the same price.
Here i can choose from many different finished suits, i can try them and see if i like it.
Anyway i know many see it different, so if you are going for it, bring your best suit (pans) from home with you and let them copy.
About bangkok and phuket, the choice in bkk is much much bigger. You can spend days traveling from shopping center to shopping center.

If you are in Bangkok check out Chatuchak Market. Its only on at weekends unfortunately.
Very easy to get to, just get the "Skytrain" to Mo Chit (last stop northbound) you can't miss it then. Its huge...
Even if you don't buy anything its a cool place to spend a few hours IMO... Theres a nice park beside it too...

In Phuket all the suits on display look the same, old fashioned and not special. I prefer to go to a shop here in Europe, try the stuff on, if it fits fine if not forget it. IMHO it is a hassle to get it done in LOS. Small shops and annoying staff.
On the other hand I got some business shirts in BKK last year. But would my girl not have been to the restroom in the mall and the tailor caught me alone standing around I wouldnt have bought something. So I went into the shop and got 5 shirts done. Tailored well and they had an amazing number of fabrics. I still enjoy waering them.
