help please
Hey my name is jake,
My girlfriend and I have decided to take our first trip to Thailand this year.
We will be going around November, is this an alright time to go?
We will be there for 2-3 weeks and was wondering if this is a good amount of time. Someone told me to go 1 week and the other said over a month.
Also where should we go for these 2-3 weeks?
I really wanna spend a full week in Patong Beach to hit up the Jet skis and some cheap shopping.
We also wanna see elephants etc somewhere so where is some good places for activities etc?
Thanks heaps.

Welcome to the board - (hardly a newbie as you've been a member 18 months already).
November is a good time - beginning to get busy but before the Christmas/New Year peak season. You must have read the many trip reports and suggestions for things to do here already.
Hope you and your g/f have a good time over here.

G'Day Cuthbo and welcome to the board.
2 - 3 weeks is a good trip. Depending on where you'll be going to. You've got plenty of things to see that are different. With your GF, 1 week in Patong should be enough, get out and check out the Islands.
I'd advise against the Jet Ski's as there's been many issues with people being hit up for "damage" done to the jet ski's. Even in they didn't damage it as they don't cover ANY insurance. Not all cases are this way but just be careful mate.
November is a good time to go as it's just before it starts getting really busy. Accommodation is more expensive though as it's classified as the start of high season.
Probably a better time would be earlier in the year around August but that depends on what restrictions you have for travel due to work etc.
Either way mate, you'll have a great time.

With regards to how long, I guess you should just apply the same rules as you would if you were going somewhere else for the first time. Personally, I tried in the past to not go for less than 3 weeks, but this was when I lived in England.
November is a good time to go, it seems to be becoming a much more popular month compared to 4/5 years ago. I have been twice in November and enjoyed nice sunny weather on both occasions. It is still recognised as part of the rainy season, but I have not had either trip spoiled even though there was some rain.
You can go elephant trekking on Phuket, not done it there myself, I did it up in Chiang Mai (CM) which is worth a visit for 4/5 days if you don't want to spend a long time in one place. CM is a lot less "tourist" and there are plenty of old buildings and temples to see, but no beach - that's what Phuket is for

yes november is a good time.
Noone can tell you how long you should stay. First you will come with your gf, so the "bar action" at night will be reduced. If you are a beach guy which love to do the chicken grill at the beach, only relax and do a little action stuff than 3 weeks is fine. If you donīt want to lay at the beach all day i think 10 days is enough. Much more nice places in thailand to discover.
Depends on you and your gf. Anyway donīt miss the phuket phantasie show, but book it without food.
Have fun

2-3 weeks is fine.
Your g/f will like it in Patong, if she likes to party!
First I thought its a place for guys only, before I have been there. But I met so many femal tourists and couples. It is a melting pot and everybody is looking for for a good time. I ve been to many places before but Patong is different.
Dancing in Seduction, playing bargames with the BGs and tell the BGs that your G/F likes girls, then watch them run away *gg*
Party on and enjoy the weeks in the sun!

Thanks for all ur replys.
We will most likely go for about 2 weeks. 1 week in Patong, a couple nights in Bangkok and the rest unknown.
Also i have a few more questions. Is there a place somewhere in Thailand where you can swim with Dolphins and see all that sorta stuff. How much would you pay for this?
Also how much would i pay for a normal t-shirt, jeans, sunnies and what not??
And also prices on jetskis??
Thanks.
