Unhappy Why can't I access some posts..?

I checked the frequently asked questions and newbies must read sticky but can't find an answer.. How do I gain privileges?

patnut, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

Thanks,
Pat

Its amazing how quickly you can get the post up once you get into it. It just takes a little courage and thought! When are you going to Patong next?

I think you will find that the reason why it does not state that anymore is because the rules were changed, The numbers of posts you need to gain access is not to be discussed on the open forum, Due to BMs posting complete crap just to get past the magical mark... So from now on its not just about the number of posts but the content of them also...

Dont worry though Patnut, If you contribute to the forum..

I am sure the mods will bump you up before you know it...

Your 25th post should be to the effect that you wish you had 25 posts so that you could get elevated ranking on the board. Sort of an ironic comment that I've come across several times.

But what about the BMs whos English isn't their 1st language? Must be a hurdle to get past 25 let alone level3.
They must be wondering whats happening....

is there anywhere on the forum that refers to this type of information. I don't want to keep putting my foot in my mouth and doing the wrong thing. I must admit I couldn't even find the stickys that people refer to in the newbies section

Don't worry about it. I set you up and the new secrecy policy is new to me as well. Don't think it helps, but not for me to decide.

Anyway, here is an image that shows the stickys. Looking along the left side. Start looking from the top down. Where it has the thread subject, that subject is proceeded by the word "Sticky:". Those are the posts you want.

This is an english speaking forum though, And they would obviously know a little bit of English beforehand or else the forum would be useless to them in the first place? I dont know exactly what is required but the reason why its not mentioned is to stop trolls from gaining access to other levels, Obviously the mods will decide who are legitimate and who are just here for a wind up...

The reason why it is there, Is to stop trolls from thinking all they have to do is post X number of posts in an hour so they can gain access to higher levels which was done recently, So I guess it will remain the same but just because you reach the so called magical number, Does not mean you will instantly be bumped up but I am sure legit BMs will, And I trust the mods can spot who are and who are not trolls..

Fair point,However i do remember a few months back a certain BM who posted an intro...His English was not great but fair play to him anyways.
He said in his intro that he was more of a reader as he struggled to post in English. Can't remember his name Tom maybe?? I dont even know if hes active anymore. I feel for these guys who will never make level 3 even though its not that good

There are a lot who post shite on the board inc myself but the mods do a good job weeding out the trolls...

Maybe a language section would be a good idea...

Where BMs could post in there own language...

But in order to do that some mods would need to speak that Language aswell...

Its not easy trying to please everyone...

For sure there has been a few cases of that. Could just let the little triangle button be a "troll alert" button as well to help the mods. But there are many more "good" newly active BMs IMO.

A little bit more troll spam in order to dangle the carrot out there as a bit of a incentive for non-trolls is a decent trade-off.

But if the rule is not to say Level 2 after 25 posts, then I won't say Level 2 after 25 posts again

I don't think that would be really necesary. Moreover, our dear Mods should know another langauges than English too and I don't see that happen so easily.

In my opinion the BM's for who English is their mother tongue, should have a little patience with the BM's which come from other langauge countries.

Over the years I learned that it is not so much the normal writing, but more when people start to use certain expressions, which are clear for native English speakers but not that much for other. As long as our fellow BM's will be happy to explain such expressions once in a while, all should be fine IMHO.

I generally believe they do. I dont recall any incident (except one but the guy was a doughnut anyway) Where anyone from a foreign nationality has been disrespected because of there English... To be honest i think there is more patience than on a lot of other boards... but i am a native english speaker that can't spell good anyway so if there was i haven't noticed anyone being picked upon or lack of tolerance to non native english speaking board members, usually quite the opposite.

That is right and I am not complaining at all, but just wanted to make a general statement to encourage those BM's, who are affraid of posting due to their knowledge of English.
As a non-native English speaker, I may have phrased it not entirely correct. See... I have a lot to learn still too... 555555.....
