Sawatdee krup
Making my first trip over to Los in september solo for a week (going to the dentist) then will be joined by my older brother, his wife and 4 or 5 other friends for another 10 or so days.
My first week will be spent in bkk running back and forth from the dentist and hitting the soi's .
Initially i thought we were going to bkk for 2 days then to phuket(i swear thats what my brother told me) so i looked up all the info on phuket and the mtb .
I was looking forward to dropping in, but seems he meant pattaya
He and his wife had been to los a few times b4 so he grilled me on a few things to avoid while i do the solo part of the trip , like groups of indian men dressed in suits wanting to shake hands outside there shop to drag you in to the shop.
I am currently learning to speak thai you Pimseulers thai audio tapes and online sites that show the written and phonetic words in thai and english.
The Main reason i am going apart from the dental work is i have always been the shy quiet type have been trying to break the shell for years.
It has cost me alot of girlfriends (its not my looks or the sex it just takes me a while to feel comfortable around women especially ones im attracted too) they think im ignoring them because i dont talk enough)
So hoping that throwing myself into the lion pit will crack open the shell for good.

Gday Doc, welcome to the site.
I learnt to speak a handful of Thai phrases for my 3rd trip over there. It's a useful thing to do for sure. But the response from most girls to it was "You speak Thai, you have Thai girlfriend yes?"

Welcome to the board Doc. Maybe a heavy dose of Thai Girls is just what you should prescribe yourself.
You will have a ball in Pattaya (especially if you can stray a bit). I am surprised, however, that you brother would prefer to take wife to Pattaya, rather than Phuket, unless there are some undisclosed plans.

have a great time Doc and the dentists over there are extreamly good and, ofcourse, cheaper than Australia.
I have had some work done and can certainly recommend them.

Thai Dentists.
I had some extensive dental work done in Phuket at Bangkok Phuket Hospital would have cost me over $25,000 AUD and cost me $6,000 in Phuket. This was still farang price but I was still very very happy and at my daughters wedding last night I wasn't afraid to smile. Welcome aboard!!

Welcome - I like your approach.
I think sometimes the best way to overcome shyness is to just "get amongst it"!!
Enjoy.

I had minor dental work on my trip to Phuket. (Managed to break a tooth on a beer bottle--don't ask) I was pleasently surprised by the visit. In and out in no time at all.

Hi Doc, I haven't had any dental work but I do know where you are coming from with the shell. I have been twice to LOS now and my 3rd trip is in May, I feel like a different person this side of my trips, no shell anymore, however I have lost interest in British girls completely, but that isn't a bad thing anyway, welcome and the best of luck mate.

Alcohol will numb the pain Doc (I can recommend the Rosso @699 Baht per Gallon)
Welcome aboard and have a great time, once the drilling, scraping, digging, gouging and spitting all over the floor because your mouth is numb bit is over!

Welcome Doc
Shouldn't be difficult to break that shell in LOS and I'm another who can recommend (generally) the dental treatment there.

The problem with drinking a gallon of Rosso after the Novocaine is that you only get to "enjoy" about a quart.
