Opening address from the Prof
Hello people. This is the Prof. My first post.
How strange to be an ancient scholar, a veteran traveller, a venerable sage ( "a drooling geriatric" according to Mrs Prof) and, at the same time... a newbie!
But isn't that life?
I should introduce myself. I am best known for my scholarly expeditions to Transylvania in pursuit of bats, vampires and other manifestations of the undead, as recorded by Mr Roman Polanski in the documentary "The Fearless Vampire Killers" (1967).
footnote 1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fea...ampire_Killers
Some of you will recall the film's subtitle, "Pardon me but your teeth are in my neck" and sense that this applies not only to the woods of Transylvania but also to the GhoulFriendly guesthouses of Phuket. And so I suspected, many years ago, when, armed with garlic and Christian paraphenalia, I first came to the Andaman coast.
Why does so much of the population sleep all day and only emerge to prowl the earth after darkness falls? How does one distinguish the predatory ghost from, say, the German snorkeller or the American retiree? What happens when humans transmute from one state (the pat) to another (the ex-pat)?
Enough questions to drive a scholar crazy. Or as Mrs Prof said, "Still chasing ghouls at your age, you silly old fart"
So these days, too feeble for fieldwork among the creatures of the night, I follow other interests: Thai pop music and cinema; the history and politics of the region more generally. I hope to converse about these matters and more with other scholars on this forum

Great intro. Up at the top.
The nocternal creatures that I have been searching for, without little success, were documented in Jesus Franco's 1971 documentary "Vampyros Lesbos" ( Vampyros Lesbos) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I think thai women must have some natural adversion. Even when baiting with the sexadelic dance party soundtrack...nothing.
Looking forward to your insights on this and other matters of interest.
Welcome. I think it's gong to get interesting.

You threw me with the Jesus Franco reference: he's better known as Jess and is indeed a prolific maker of serious ethnographic films about women fanging each other. Also an expert in the highly specialist field of nunsploitation documentaries. I will be visiting shortly to determine whether such research is warranted in the village of Bangla, Phuket.

Have seen a flick called "Things to do in Denver when you're dead". Great title, crap movie. There is a surprisingly good album of John Denver covers out there. That about exhausts my "Denver" file. I may be remarkably learned but I don't know every bloody thing

Don't know if I would be keen on the pursuit of vampires, bats and undead but I like ATM's idea of Vampyros Lesbos. I'LL eat to that.
That would be fun to watch as I'm sure most would agree.
Someone doing a send up I think.

nice intro,
now - i think about it-
the people who sleep in the daytime and come out when the sun is gone.
hmmm, i know a lot of them, hmmm
they have rings under the eye's and they have not so much skincolour....
moving to a lobster, when they see the sun....
it's very remakable and curious...
