Newbie Here

First post here. I have been to Phuket twice, back in 96 and 98 when i was in the US military.

Anyone knows of any good hotels in Patong, by the beach. Also a hotel that does not charge entrance for visitors?

Try and get in Summer Breeze if you can - owned by US board member here Billpay ... ok its a walk down Bangla to the beach but no joiner fees and atmosphere there is very friendly.

On the beach itself in Patong its pretty limited without joiner fees - you might have to stay a little further out if you must stay on the beach.

Mabuhey to the board and have a good trip here.

Cool Guest Houses

Welcome to the board.

Most guest houses are GF so you will have no problem. The C@N and Lamai Hotel are both close and cheap.

Good hotels for Newbies

Hi: I'm a newbie too, am now on my third day in Patong. I was looking for a hotel on the beach that was girl friendly but couldn't find one. Ended up spending my first three nights at Valhalla on Soi Sunset, it's a 100 meters from the heart of the Bangla action and it has a pool, outdoor jacuzzi and sauna. It's not just girl friendly, they look worried about you if they don't see you with at least one girl, and will definitely help you to get whatever you want...yesterday I had a hankering for five girls at the pool...30 minutes later they arrived. I think for a newbie that kind of help is more important than being at the beach...it's too hot to spend much time at the beach anyway.

Just moved up to Baan Yin Dee Resort, I only did it because I had prepaid for a room here, otherwise would have stayed on at Valhalla, BYD is very nice and also girl friendly but it's just too much of a hike from town. So I am keeping my Valhalla room too! at least for the moment.

I'll do a detailed report when I'm back...too much else to do here.

LCPL I know you have only just registered and of course I respect your decision to choose your board name but would suggest you reconsider before you make too many posts to not be able to.

Board names like yours possibly stem from email account names or passwords, trouble is in my opinion if and when you first come to Thailand you will role up in to Mai Tai Bar and people will speak to you, they will all ask are you a board member and then you will reply with your boardname, no one will recognise it and moreso no one can call you by it, 'Heh Lb.. 34errr'.

You will get on much easier with a name that can be repeated and heard in the loud music environment of the bar.

Just my twopenneth worth, thought it might help you.

Great suggestion ... picking a board name should probably be a sticky in the newbie section - for that very reason.

Agreed. My nickname is the same as I have used for other emails etc and is easy for me to remember. When introducing to BM's they would recognise the first part the numbers were just "something something something". Luckily the first part is not so hard so just leave off the numbers.

Joiner fees, that means if u bring a girl to your room and the hotel charge you right?

I stayed in Duangjit hotel back in 96. We did not bring any girls but saw a hotel guest brought a girl in and paid for the entrance.

Will there be lot of foreign girls over there? Europeans, Japanese, Australian girls on vacation.

O-O LC - most hotels 3* and better will charge (rip you off) with a joiner fee to bring a girl back to your room if she is an unregistered guest, so make more sense to stay in a nice hotel (depite being 1, 2 or 3*) but not with families etc if your planning on being 'naughty'.

As the beach front hotels can charge premium rates and attract families you will find it most likely you will be spending as much as what you will be paying for nights 'comapny' just to have her in your room.

PS: (You dont get this nonsense in AC).

Was just talking 'toungue in cheek' LC - AC is Angeles City, PI, as your from Philippines (well it says in your profile) just noting that PI hotels hotels are less likely to push this 'joiner fee' nonsense that is common here from better hotels.

Been living here in the US for 20 years now. Been to Olongapo back in 2000. Don't know back how it was during the US military days in Olongapo but i will pick Phuket to the current version of Olongapo. I will try Boracay in the future.
