British Newbie Living in China

Well, I've been living and working in China since August 2006 and 2 weeks ago, me and some friends, who are visiting from the UK, decided to book a trip to Thailand.

I've read the forum lots and it's interesting, with some great and useful information.

I'll be arriving on 15th May in Bangkok where I'll stay for 2 nights, then I'll fly to Phuket where I will spend 5 nights. I've found a cheap hostel in Bangkok so that is ok, but still having a few issues finding something suitable in Phuket (Patong).

I've tried emailing The Green Mansion who seem ok, but I've had no reply in 3 days. One question I have is, a friend of mine would like to visit some historical things or do something adventurous. Are there much of those things there?

Anyway, I'll be sticking around and trying to get as much info as possible before my trip and I'm all excited!

Welcome to the forum Yingguoren

There should be plenty of accommodation when you arrive. Have a look at The Summer Breeze Hotel Phuket - Home Page its recommended by many members, and it central to all the nightlife.

There are temples to visit, but to be honest, not too much historical stuff in Phuket. Lots of adventurous stuff to do though. White water rafting trip, canooing, bungy jumps, cable waterskiing, shooting range, go-karting, along with many speedboat and longtail trips to other islands.

I hope you all enjoy your trip

Welcome to the board Yingguoren. Enjoy your trip. I'll be right on your heels. I arrive in BKK the day after you do.

Its great today - nice and sunny and clear, Victoria Harbour is a nice blue/green. Still darned expensive! Cheaper to fly to Bangkok than to spend a weekend in Wanchai!
I actually like Shekou occassionally for a weekend away.

Great to hear Yeh, I'm a 5 minute cab ride from Shekou. It can be cool there. A great place for me to get a day of 'western' then head back to my hole for a month.
