Hello all
I havesome freinds that go to thailand about every 2 years, I missed the last trip for financial reasons
However I am wanting to book up for next year, but they might not be able to go.
a few questions please,
is it just as good to go (and safe) by yourself, or as a first timer would it be better to go with company.
how much will I need on a daily basis, for food accomodation and beer?
are STDs common
thanks

Thailand is a safe country even as a first timer you will have the best time there , just do some research before you go.

Welcome to the board.
I just finished my first trip alone and had a great time. No problems at all. There are plenty of people to help or answer questions and if you have a good hotel then get your answers and help there. Otherwise head to MTB for friends and answers.
Don't know where you are from, but I spent about $1800 for two weeks and probably could have done just fine on $1500. That is just spending money and does not include hotel or airfare. My total trip cost was about $4000.

cyril sneer,
Welcome to the board and enjoy your trip to LOS. Traveling alone is fine, just remember to visit MTB if you are in Patong.

Genuis Board name, and an excellent location!
I always prefered you 'cos I hated those Racoons! How are your 3 pig side-kicks?

Hi and welcome to the board.
Why wait for your friends? To be honest my first trip I went on my own, did hardly any research BUT I had a unforgettable time. I am going for my thrid trip in a little under 3 weeks and again on my own (last trip was with a friend). Thailand is a safe country for the most part just keep a good head on you and you'll have no problems at all.
If i were you I'd be on the internet now sorting out flights. Do some reading on here and if you decide to head to Phuket make MTB one of your first ports of call. Just relax and enjoy yourself.

No problems to go on your own. As IJ mentioned a lot of your questions will be answered in various threads.
Also visit MTB on your first night and you can meet many BM's and get all further information you want.

It's definitely safe to go by yourself to Thailand. Do lots of planning and keep searching this site and others for background information and helpful hints.
If you go ahead and start moving ahead with your trip, don't be surprised if one or more of your friends jump on the bandwagon. Anyone that has been to Thailand before ends up with the LOS blues, and that just makes them more eager to get back again!

I went with friends the first time and it helped a lot. I did not know about this forum but with it's help I would not hesitate to go alone, especially if it meant not going at all...go for it!
