Jonn,
Welcome to the board. Hope you will have a great trip in June. Other than Koh Samui, where else are you planning to go?

I think if you ask most BM they will say that have not gotten vaccines before going to Thailand. On the other hand if you consult MD Travel Health (MD Travel Health - Thailand - vaccinations, malaria, safety, and other medical advice) you will find hepatitis A & B, Tetanus and (for some) Typhoid. I always have my Tetanus shots every 8-10 years, but that is whether I travel or not.

For best and most personal advise you should consult you family physician.

My health care provider recommended Hep "A" so I got it. It is a two part shot and you have to wait 6 months for the second shot. You have some immunity from the first shot, but not full. The second shot provides maximum immunity, according to what I was told.

Hi Jonn, welcome to the board.

Just check with your local health center. The vaccinations you require, depend on where you travel to.
I have Hep A and B, DTP (Difteria, Tetanus and Polio) as well as a typhoid shot.
In Holland (maybe in your country too), you can get multiple shots, so you are protected for a longer period of time, which is very usuful if you intend to such countries more often. It also saves you a lot of money in the long run.

Success

I think you should confirm what you are getting oneday, i am pretty sure that Hep A is a single shot, with Hep B being 3 shots, the second one after a month, third 5 months later.

Even the shot does not make you immune as i still managed to get Hep A.

welcome to Thailand Jonn. Be sure to sell you house, car etc and say goodbye to your loved ones before you arrive, 'cos you'll never want to leave :-)

Before I wrote that message I looked at the card they gave and it says "Hepatitis A Series", #1 today and #2 in 6-12 months. You got shots and still contracted it, ouch!

Oh well, just do whatever the doctor says i guess, he knows better than me , i have never been lucky with this type of thing, i also managed to get Malaria after only a couple of months in Africa, but what does not kill you makes you stronger, i hope.

Oh and hello jon, welcome aboard, i am a week away from LOS myself but will miss you this trip, perhaps i will bump into you next trip.

Have a good one

Simon

Hep A first shot gives immunity (or not, S1mon!) for a year, the second shot extends this to , i believe, 10 years.

Hep B has a couple of different regimes, you're unlikely to get a full course in before you leave but if you can get the first couple of jabs then it's still worthwhile.
