Coffee

I did a search on the all important heart and mind starter.

As I used to work in the Motor Industry and drink anywhere from 10 to 15 cups of really bad coffee a day (instant crap) After getting out of this line of work I went cold turkey on the coffee, not the best 7 days of my life, now I have one cup a day as a get me started and I like it to be a good one.

I am not talking about a brewed cup they serve in most places but a good barista made cup. I know it sounds a little gay and I do cop a bit of flak from friends and family but it is what I like.

Am I going to have any problems find a good cup of coffee any help will be appreciated.

As for Starbucks plan to take over the world, they make shit coffee, too weak and milky for me and what's with a cup a size of a bucket.

Only very cold beer preferably XXXX (Qld Beer) should be served in something that big.

There are proper coffee shops (starbucks, black canyon, coffee world) so your not wandering the wilderness cup in hand but thats the level of ability.. I dont know of any true barista place here.

A few years ago even getting good beans was tough, its been revolutionized in the last 4 years with the chain brands putting real coffee (instant is the devils piss) back in the market.

Thais used to have a proper coffee culture, they grow arabica in the north, and have a local brewing process with a material filter like a sock often served with doughballs (like a kind of doughnut type thing) or dim sum.. Good breakfast scene but they drink it with sweetened condensed milk that I find is way too sweet, its kinda like turkish coffee.. However this local coffee culture was pushed out by nescafe 3 in one sachet crapola and is not common..

I love my coffee but I am open enough to try and enjoy all types, from turkish, to bali (no filter, dust fine grounds, dont stir) as well as the barista italian style scene thats taken over the world..

Mauro in the Mickey Mouse bar on seadragon pulls a good shot.. Nice if wandering the streets and feeling flagging, a couple of espresso restricto shots puts you right back into bouncing mode)..

Thank's LivinLOS. I drank Bali Koffee when I was there and didn't mind it at all, it does a bit of kick to. I took some back home with me.

Did a tour up to to mountains (very big hills) and went to a fruit farm that grew their own coffee. Their roasting method consisted of an old guy cooking the beans in a wok over a low fire for a couple of hours. I wonder if Phuket has only tours like this? I will do a search on it.

If wanting good coffee is gay, then I better go borrow Geir's pink purse.

Good coffee is what it's all about. even though I am cut down to two cups a day now

Search the forum for coffee. There was a big discussion in on of the threads. I think it was in a jungceylon thread.

I don't want to sound rude and forgive me if i do. "But" I am going over in July with 7 mates. I too drink 10 to 15 cups of coffee a day. To be honest, i have a wish list of things i want to do when i get there. Things that are keeping me awake at night. Things that may never present themselves to me again. I can honestly say that "COFFEE IS NOT ONE OF THEM" Not in thailand anyway. Lol....Sorry, couldn't resist

maybe irish, you will need a good quality cup of coffee in the morning after doing some of the things causing you insomnia.

have good trip, 7 mates cruising the bangla in low season, you will be sure popular in the bars then.

good coffee is something i enjoy when i thailand, but never see to be able to buy it, so the only place i get the coffee i like is at the wifes house.

try the newly imported italian coffee brand Mokador at the café of the same name within the Silom Complex (bridge link direct from Sala Daeng BTS station).
it's right next to the TAG HUER shop.
this is the first of soon-to-be nationwide chain of cafes serving this unique smooth blend.
ok, I have to admit a vested interest, my wife is the National Sales&Marketing manager on the wholesale side, but that doesn't detract from the fact that if you're looking for a good coffee you won't be disappointed.

irish i will be cheering the ozzies on in the asian cup, leaving the wife up-country.
pretty quiet in july when i have been there before, but my favourite time because of that.

as i said before 7 mates on the cruise, you will push up some lucky bars sales for the low season, so the best bgs maybe have a mission to snatch the group for their bar.555

rc exile, will that chain of shops be open to franchise or will it just be the boss in bkk and regional managers ?
will try that coffee in july as for sure good coffee without having to go to a top hotel is a bonus

Decent coffees in town.
- Sandwich Shoppe
- Little coffee shop off the corner on the outside of patong before turning towards Karon. (In front of one of the paint shops)

With a bit of searching a reasonable coffee can be experienced in Phuket. I found the Andaman Coffee Co places to be acceptable but IMHO the nicest cup was procurred from a lovely little Thai lady in a kind of coffee kart, near the entrance to Soi Seadragon in Bangla Rd.

Experience has shown me that the best coffee is made by people who drink it!
The non-coffee drinkers make shit !!.... just like what those non-experinced kids in Star*ucks produce.

I know it's a bit far but try Vietnam ... they know how to produce a good cup!

Yes, fully agree with you. I am really a coffee addict and at home have 4 different style coffee makers and also like to vary different kinds of coffee, like other people do with wine. On average, I am having 7-8 mugs a day.

Starbucks really make terrible shitty coffee. For me it is a nono just like instant coffee!
It always remembers me to the coffee you (used to?) get in a random USA coffee shop or restaurant. Hence, water with a little taste of coffee. I never go to them! Here in Holland you don't see them. In The Hague there is not a single outlet and in Amsterdam, I think there is just one. 75% of their visitors are North American tourists.

If you go over the hill to Kata, you will find a western style coffee house on Tiana road. I got a kilo of good ground coffee for 500B.
