medical assistance required.

Hi i just typed this whole thing up, hit the wrong button and it all dissapeared. So i'll get to the point.......Looks like i have a hernia. im 10 days into a 3 1/2 month stay in Phuket and am wondering if anyone can help with the following.
1. has anyone had this op and what is the time frame for it ? ( Hosp time, recovery etc )
2. What medical facility would one reccommend here and does anyone know what costs i would expect. Or can you recommend a good doctor.
3. Do you know if a basic level emergency travel inurance policy would cover it. I will check this out but may take a month to weave through the terms and cond.
Thats all for now as i have to go, but i would appreciate any info you have. Thanks for being here. Nice to know there is a community of people set up to assist each other.

Travel insurance should cover a hernia op I would think as that is a medical emergency rather than a sickness or ongoing / previous complaint.. But check..

If they are paying go over to Phuket Bangkok hospital.. Otherwise you could also look at the phuket international (next to big C) which is a lot cheaper but good service too.. Just not as much marble etc.

Hi Carvets,
sounds like your having some back luck, Just some info on a hernia, I had my 2nd hernia repaired a couple of years ago. After the inital tear everything settled back to normal a few days later, I couldn't even notice it, which was good because it took 4 months to get the op done (unless it goes strangulated, them you go to the top of the list). After the op you will be off your feet for a couple of weeks and its about 6 weeks before life goes back to normal.

Hope this is some help, David

Carvets…First welcome to the boards. Secondly, talk to a doctor at the hospital and get their opinion on your medical condition. (not a bunch of strangers on a forum board) Depending on Hernia, some can be dealt with non-invasively, where you can be back on your feet fairly quickly.

Are you in Phuket alone or do you have someone to help? Personally, if I were you, I would head home, have the operation done and then return. Guess it all depends on your support network. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I went to Patong hospital and saw a doctor there . He suggested as its not a major bust out and not yet painful, that i may get a few months out of it before surgery. He suggested a special support strap you can get to help keep the little bugger in. He also suggested the two hospitals in Phuket town, but that the Gov hosp would be cheaper but salower. I do have some support here although my favorite nurse up and married a German man while i was back in Oz and nurse no2 is making farm in Nong Khai.....Next step is to go to Phuket Hosp and enquire about prices...Thanks again.
