Hi Mojo42,

I totally understand your situation. I have a situation that is somewhat similar. I understand and appreciate those who have commented that “Who the F**K cares?”. And I wish my situation was that simple. But the realty is that it will matter a whole lot in my professional life. I have a business and people who work for me and they have families that depend on me. My reputation has a monetary value.

So, with that in mind, a month ago I started taking scuba diving lessons for my upcoming “scuba diving vacation” <GR>. I realize I will have to limit the drinking part of the trip, but the exercise and daytime diversion from the bar scene will probably do me good anyway.

Don’t know if that helps. But now when staff or clients ask about my trip, I immediately go into detail about how Phuket is one of the premiere diving locations in the world and that’s why I am going there. I just don’t mention that there are other kinds of “diving sports” that I am also focusing on.:-)

My first decent trip to Patong was for 3 weeks while I had dental work done. Travelled by myself and had a ball I told all friends about the temples, beaches, local customs and so much more. Now some of them have travelled there and enjoyed it them selves. Have been back with my wife and introduced her to some of the ladies I met, she loves the place now and wants to go back and keeps telling her friends about it.

I think it all depends on how u explain it to people. I for one am never ashamed to tell people I am going to Thailand.

There is the key. You sell it as an exotic destination. Leave out the details.

Although Buddy i would tend to agree with you, the problem with trying to tell people that as a "single man" i.e going without your other half or you are single, no matter how much you try and sell Thailand as something else people will always think off the seedy side because of the stigma that surronds it.... Bollucks to those people IMHO.... There just jelous 55555555.

I like the diving excuse. I'm going to use that. Actually might go as far as learning how to dive and going on a few trips to make it convincing. Sounds like fun.
However it's hard to say with a straight face that you are going to Pattaya to go DIVING so I might leave that bit out.

That's it really. I see that thread popping up over again and I always have your reply in mind. What a pile of bull.

Live and admit what you do or stop doing it !

If that's what's left of my post after censor editing, so be it. The last post of mine in on that topic.

I don't tell everyone where I'm going either, and when I look in the mirror I like what I see because I know who I am and why I go. But it's hard to explain the reasons to every person who asks. Each of us is entitled to do as we see fit as far as our personal situations demand. We are not all the same. For me I tell only a select few people.

Looks like you caught a bit of my response before it was deleted.

Guys, if you are for real...why only to a selected crowd ? Don't answer please, I already know reading all those exuses.
