I'm doing it! Trip to LOS
Yes that is right! I am going to LOS for 7 months. I have travelled a lot before and been to Thailand a cuople of times but this will be the longest trip so far for me. Can't wait to leave Sweden!
The plan is quite simple, no plans. Booked a flight to BKK, once there I'll decide where to go. Love Phuket so I will spend a couple of months there but not sure what months. The biggest problem for me now is I need to decide where I want to spend Christmas and New Years Eve, I know Patong will be crowded then so need to plan those weeks ahead if I want to stay there. But apart from that, I'm sticking to my master plan of planning nothing.

Lib...Congratulations on your decision to travel for 7 months. Don’t think there are many on the boards that wouldn't love to do the same. Be great if you could post a trip report of your adventures.

Thanks guys!
I dont think I'll spend all my time in LOS. Been reading up on Philippines and Vietnam, seems like cool places, might go there for a couple of weeks to see what its like.

I basically did the same thing 5 years ago. Decided to first go to Phuket and then “travel all over Asia” for the next 12 months. Only thing is… I have not traveled nearly as much as I intended and… I’ve been “stuck” in Phuket ever since. No regrets whatsoever though.
Even though I generally agree on the “no plan” plan, what I would do would be to rent a house / apt in Phuket for 6 months, use it as a base, and then do 1 – 2 weeks traveling to neighboring countries whenever you feel for it. Much better than hotels and it would save you quite a few baht in the end.
If I may ask: What is your budget?

Nice to hear your thoughts on this! Thank you!
I have been going back and forth on the rent an apartment thing. Think it will be easier to move out if I'm in a hotel. The "risk" of getting stuck should be less I figure. A good thing with a hotel is location, always close to the action/beach and they have a pool. Im gonna give it some more thought thou, would be nice to save some money on accomodation.
Budget is $3-5k a month. I bring enough to spend $5k every month but would prefer not to. Been reading the "how much do I need to bring? threads" and by the sounds of it my budget is ok. Any advice on this?

Yes, I do agree with the probability of “getting stuck”. I’ve done some lengthy trips myself (e.g. 6 months in South America) just hopping carelessly from place to place. That said, this was almost 15 years ago and I do not think I could do the same thing today.
If you don’t mind traveling by bus / train, maybe a 2 – 3 months trip starting in Hanoi down to Saigon up Cambodia and then into Issan (maybe even Laos) and finally down to Bangkok (and Pattaya for the experience).
The rest of the trip based in Phuket doing the odd hop to Singapore / Kuala Lumpur and Koh Samui. At least you then would’ve covered some grounds, with pictures to show…

Hey lucky guy!
I did a similar thing in 1993, I set out from Vancouver on a 7 month round the world trip. It was the best thing I ever did. I stayed in the following places/weeks: Hawaii (2), Fiji (3), New Zealand (2), Australia's East coast (4), Indonesia (2), KL (1), Thailand (7), Kathmandu (3), New Delhi (.2), Europe (5), New York (1) and then back to work.
I had a great time, met some interesting characters and would do it again in a heartbeat. I had a rough itinerary once I bought the ticket and went along with the flow. It's a great way to travel.
Enjoy!!
