Datsunīs first post
Hi everyone
Im comming to Phuket/patong for my second time and will stay for about 7 weeks in august-september. Now I have a couple of questions.
Question1:
Because I donīt have a visa, I need to leave the country for a day or two, after 30 days. So which place is the easiest/cheapest to go to abroad, if you are in phuket?
Question2:
Im thinking of spending a week on Phi Phi, I have read about a ferry that goes to Phi Phi. Does this ferry go from Chalong Pier?
Question3: This can sound a bit silly, but are there alot of thunderstorms in august-september? Because I am really fascinated of thunder.

Q#1: Easiest: Fly to Singapore... 4,000 baht, Cheapest: Vanpool to the Rayong border to Myanmar... 1,600 baht (but an all day event).
Note: There is no reason to overnight if you don't want to.
Q#2: Not the pier itself, but in the general area, but a speedboat sure would be faster. They will pick you up at your hotel if required (it's in the price IIRC)
Q#3: Yes, there should be some good T-storms at that time of year. Bring/buy a plastic poncho... same with an umbrella.

Welcome to the board Datsun.
Easy to apply for a sixty day visa...however a couple of day trip to K.L. is another option. You can fly Air Asia for under 4000b.
It's easy to get to Phi Phi...just visit any tour company in Patong.
Have a great trip.

Thanks
Thanks for the replies
If you go with a Vanpool from Phuket to Myanmar and back. How much time do you actually spend in Myanmar? Are there serveral options? Because it would be nice to se/do something when you are there, not just cross the border and go right back.
And what does a cheap hotel in Singapore cost? because I have heard that Singapore is a quite expensive city, or am I wrong?

you spend 10 minuted if you do the standard Ranong / Vic point run.. And its 10 minutes too long.
Vic Point (Kaow Tawng ??) is really the armpit of the world.. I am sure Burma has some lovely places and people but this is not one of them.
You can also run over to the Casino either for an hour or overnight, theres a Golf course there and some mates of mine like this option. Its not really seeing anything of Burma tho.

Thanks for the info LivinLOS.
I know there are a lot of local travel agencies in Patong, but I never took a closer look last time, so do they offer longer package deals to neighbouring countries like myanmar, or are they just selling these one-day tourist-trap trips?

Hi and welcome to the board, most agencies will cater for anything you want, the 1 day trips are not really tourist-traps they are aimed at people who just want a there and back trip to renew visas.

with tourist-traps I meant more the "1 day around Phi Phi with boat", because that was the only thing you saw when you went by in the streets. And the question was more about if they offer package deal trip to neighbouring countries, but good to hear that they cater to ones whishes.

Don't think it's a good idea to give out her number on an 'open' forum , better send it by PM if necessary.

A suggestion would be to go to the Thai embassy or Consulate in Finland and apply for a tourist visa for 2 months, then extend it for another month. Then you wouldnt have to worry about the visa runs, thats what i would do anyways.
50$ or so for the visa and extend the visa in Phuket for a small fee, 2500 baht or whatever it is. The visa run to Cambodia was not a nice experience at all.

Yeah, but I suppose that I have to go physically to the Thai consulate, and I rather go on a visa run than to drive to the consulate in Helsinki, because that is a 500km drive, one way...

Don't you have post in Finland? In Belgium you can send your passport to the embassy, together with 2 or 3 passport photos and the application document. They will send your pass with the visa back.

Can you do that? I have always thought that you have to go in person to the embasy/consulate... But I will just go on a visa run, because I want to visit some other place like singapore or myanmar...

What for go in person???? It is only a tourist visa, they have all they need to give it to you. And if you don't want to post, ask your travel agency...but be prepared to pay more than double as they will make a profit on it.

I have never had to apply for a visa so I didnīt know that it could be done by post. I have no travel agency because I have booked everything online.
