Smile Virginal queries

Hi all
Just come across this forum and as my wife and I are coming out to Phuket latere in the year with a view to buying a home and possibly a business I have many questions!!
Simple things like where is the best place to live (close to golf and sea), what type of business is the best route for foreigners (Im considering a small resort), what are taxes like, how difficult is it to establish oneself as a resident and/or businessman?
This is for openers and any comments would be gratly appreciated.
For the record I am an Englishman and my wife is Russian, we have our home in Spain and busines in the UK at the moment.
Thanks for reading
Den

If your asking these questions you have a long way to go to get ready..

Come live here a year (dont buy anything) then you will know what questions to ask..

The current climate is not very investor friendly. The FBA laws coming in look very much like they will not allow you to own control of your investment..

Yes I have been to Phuket on a few occasions but never looked at the market properly as regards moving/investing there. After the tsunami I would imagine that many things have changed in the property market.
You are not being rude! I am asking rudimentary questions to get a feel of the place as seen by people who have lived there for a while and to answer the first reply, it is excellent advice, and we do intend to rent for a year or so before making a final decision.
After investigating many other locations to settle after 18 years in Spain, Thailand appears to offeer the things we like and need.
Thanks for your answers guys.

Thailand offers a lot but the biz climate is not so friendly is all.. Not that it cant be done.. But I wouldnt want to rely on it..

Also Guesthouses and hotels command a high sum (for the returns) it seems to me.. As ever with that market its once again Location location location and dont ever let up on the service.

Thank you so much. You have confirmed what I suspected, having done initial research mainly online. I would not be seeking vast returns however, just enough to pay the bills and give me an interest.
