Thailand is calling me. Some basic information please.
I'm looking to travel to thailand. What am i looking at airfare wise (from Canada to Thailand)? (i've seen 2300-2800 round i beleive)
How much spending money would i need to live decently for 2 weeks?
i.e. would $1000 canadian last me 2 weeks there? Including food and lodging.
(apparently 1,000.00 CAD = 27,950.51 THB atm) and at least one daily companion.
How many Baht am i looking at spending for a decent relatively safe place?
Any job market out there for people in the IT industry?
thanks for and advice you can give.

To party in the nightlife as a first time tourist.. Look at 4k baht per day min.. Maybe up to 8 or 10k if you party hard and drink hard and go on trips and tours.
So a min of 2k CAD but more like 4k to really have a wild time.

I am trying to budget to 6000 baht per day for my upcoming trip. All my hotels are already paid for...
Now if I stick to that budget is another story!!!!!
One good thing is I will not be paying for tuk tuks in Patong like last time!!!
I think some days I was paying nearly 1000 baht a day just on tuk tuks! Lesson learned!

1500B x 14days = 21000B
assuming you have a different companion everyday... if its the same chick and she likes you... she'll probably settle for less...
meaning u have around 7000B leftover... 500B per day.... If ure a thai, I'm sure 500 is more than enough per day... Taking into acccount that you've nvr been there... you wanna tour... plus you may get fleeced here and there... plus shopping... plus travel... not to mention ACCOMODATIONS...
I think 1000CAD isn't enough... do a search in the forums to check out accomodations... read trip reports to find out wat to do and learn from other's boo boos...
have fun...

28000 Baht for 2 weeks is 2000 per day. You could vacation for that, but you would not have much fun if P4P is part of your plans. Depending on where you go (BKK, Pattaya or Phuket) LT+BF would be between 1500 and 2500 up. That pretty much takes care of you budget before you pay for food and lodging, or any other activity you may want to enjoy while you are there.
When you ask different BM's you will get a relatively wide spread in budget suggestions, but less than 3000 baht is tough. Others will tell you that to have a ton of fun, you will need over 10,000 baht per day.
Whatever are your desires will determine your budget. Do not sell yourself short though. If you are looking to pay 67,000 for your flight then upping your daily budget from 3000 to 6000 or more should not be that big of a deal relatively speaking. Besides, depending on time of year traveling you should be able to do much better on the airfare. It is not uncommon to see deals sub US$1000 from NYC.
You may want to take a look here to help you add it all up:

So i'm looking at anywhere from lets say 2500 to get there and back (hopefully) and at least 3500 to chill out and have a 'good' time.
So i nee approx 6k at least to make it down there.
Goddamn, if i can survive 13 hours in a cargo hold on some plane to cut costs i'm all up for it.
Actually a friend of mine, who is currently MIA in SC somewhere who is a pilot mentioned you can get discounted prices on planes for travelling with 1 carry on bag? Anyone heard of this?

He didn't mention anything about "chicks" and such.
Maybe, like a few of us, he's interested in exploring the other beautiful venues, that Thailand has to offer.
Geeeeze???? "sex tourists"...one track minds!
Have a wonderful trip, Blunted.

Blunted welcome to the board. Your Canadian dollar is worth almost 3200B per 100 now when exchanged in Thailand.
Not sure what airline your looking at but out of Montreal you should be able to find something in the 1800-1900 range (depending on the date) Toronto direct to Hong Kong with Air Canada..(use expedia)
Or...go through Boston (short air hop or drive) or New York direct to either Bangkok (Thai) or Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and save a small fortune

Hey Blunted, I always fly out of Vancouver and can get a flight for about $1500.00CDN from Vancouver to Hong Kong then over to Phuket or I have had flights as cheap as $1300.00CDN Vancouver to Taipei then to Bangkok, but you normally have to stay overnight in Bangkok then take the early morning flight to Phuket cost is around $80.00CDN.
If you are looking at hotel, food and nightly enternaiment, i would look at min 1000 baht for room per night, 1000 baht for food, 2000-3000 baht per night for booze and girl (more depending on your drinking habits, I can drop 3-4000 baht just on booze and more if you have a bg with you), and then anything extra like diving, tours, etc add in.

Swing down to JFK, and take Thai Air nonstop to BKK. I think around $1,600 USD.

Another point I could mention is, if your doing your exchange and budgeting on CAD as above, be aware that theres a different rate thats +10% better inside Thailand than outside.. So if your looking at xe.com type rates then you have a bit more budget.

Blunted: You asked about saving money by traveling with one bag. That kind of policy varies from airline to airline (I work for an airline and we allow 2 checked bags then charge you for a third) We also allow 2 small carry ons...But again that varies from airline to airline...so just contact your carrier before you head off to the airport and see what their policy is.....Jim

Maybe Jim could stow you in his luggage. Pack light. Luggage and clothes are cheap in LOS.
