First Time to Thailand

Hi all, First time posting here, and first time to Thailand for me.
I've read a lot of your posts over the last month, and most of you have helped me out already in one way or another.

I am going on my own to Bangkok for a couple of days in Sept 25th then of to Pattaya till 8thOct, I am sure this will be the first of many visits.

But as I couldn't get anyone to go with me I got chatting online to a local girl in Pattaya. We've emailed each other every day for more than a month now. She seems like a nice girl and I've had plenty of (normal) pictures of her. She said she will show me around and so on, and she really does seem like a nice girl, and her emails are consitant. I am going to meet up with her when I get to Pattaya, so I know this sounds really vague, but what I was thinking was what do you think she would be expecting of me? do I buy her stuff, or just take her out? or I don't know. See what you think.

I am not too worried about all the other ladies there at the moment, unless things don't work out between us.

With regards to you new friend....

I'm sure that you'll be very happy.

Online chat rooms are the best place to meet (good) girls. Sounds like you are a (good) boy, too.

I don't think she will be expecting much from you, other than maybe 2k slipped under her purse, every morning.

Just play it by ear - no need to take her anything if you don't want to. If you like her, use the money over there to buy what she wants - everything will obviously be cheaper there too. Maybe recommend you have a day or two there before you actually meet to find your feet a bit, but up to you. I found Patts a bloody nightmare to begin with - too many girls, not enough punters - a complete culture shock to an Englishman!

Why don't you try and clear up any uncertainty before you get there?

But I think the normal "friend" thing of going to have something to eat together, seeing a movie, having a drink would be a pretty logical way to atack this.

Just don't think about it too much, go with the flow. It's not like youre travelling all the way to Thailand JUST to meet her. Meeting her is incidental to your trip, right?

Good advice thanks, Yes thats what I've been told about the place, I can't wait. I couldn't believe the flights where so cheap aswell £429 in taxes from manchester. I'm staying at the flipper aswell, which works out much cheaper then staying on the costa del sol

I think you're right by playing it by ear,

I'm gonna take about £1500 with me for in all 11-12day do you think thats enough?

I would say plenty, although there are others that wouldn't. Don't forget; you'll be paying for two if you like this girl (or another), so double everything you've budgeted for (or is that half?). Anyway, it's not something to worry about as your girl will know where you can eat cheaply etc if money becomes an issue, but I'm sure it won't as it's generally a cheap country. Actually, you can have a great time with that kind of dough.

The only way you'll blow through the cash is if you and this girl don't get on and you decide to go to the gogos etc and pick up a load of women. May not be your intention now, but don't discount it as a possibility. Patts is half as expensive as patong but you end up spending twice as much.

Who did you get that flight with mate? I'm trying to sort something out for some friends back home, and the prices are frightening - 800 quid for the next few weeks!

I just booked with airline-network.co.uk from 30thAug - 10th Sept. I hour stopover in BKK for £505. Hope that helps

Thanks - more like it price wise! I don't know what's happening this year, but when I was looking about a year ago, I could get 315, direct with Eva.

That should be a f**k load!!! If Patts is half as expensive as Patong you will be in business. I was in Patong for 10 nights and spent £800. That include 2-3 feeds a day though mostly street vendors and a good feed for dinner. A lady was aquired every evening till the next day and was pretty much drinking ten fold to what I normally do!!!

A pitty I had to change my flight till late october as I am flying to LOS from the UK and would have gladley shown you around and give you a few pointers.

Anyway hope the trip goes well. Will be looking for a T/R once you return...

hey Saleom, that sounds promising, I guess if I knew more people there before I went maybe things would have been different. and thanks for the offer of showing me around. I guess if I like it that much I would fancy going back over christmas. Sounds like the time to go...

Some of the lads back here have asked me to pick up some Fairtex boxing gloves, as they're supposed be as cheap as chips in Thailand. Dunno how im gonna get em back.

The more I read about this place the better is sounds, I'm gonna stay at the Flipper hotel, cant remember if its the Lodge or house. Which one's better?

Cheap flights to Bangkok from Manchester

and picked Holidaygenie.com from there, the price has gone up by 35quid now, but there are other sites on there offering cheap rates.

Taxes, fuel surcharge, time off year (charge more when the kids are off school) soon adds up. Also if you book early when they have a special offer can help
