Hello From Vancouver,Canada, A couple of questions
Hello all from Vancouver, Canada, I am coming to patong over new years this year (Dec,29-jan,2) with a possibility of longer. I have already booked my hotel at the Patong premier resort although since it is my first time there (or overseas for that matter) i have a couple of questions.
1)What are prices like over new years period (drinks, food, snorkeling, ect)?
2)What sort of average age group comes to patong to party? i am 26 and My GF is 21
3) Other than booking through the hotel, what is the best way to get from the airport to Patong and back?
4) Any tips or tricks or suggestions would be greatly appreciated?
Cheers, Mike

thank you for the info, although it did not answer my question regarding average age and if there is any inflation on prices during new years.
I just want to make sure that me and my GF are coming to the right place to party, so far all I hear is good things
cheers,mike

No inflation over new year, only exception is hotel room rates do increase with high season, everything else is same or funnily enough cheaper.
Average age? tough question to answer, of holidaymakers, probably 30 ish, but just a guess.
You will not feel out of place because of age, there will be plenty of people of your own age and everyone is on holiday and mix really well. Local, I suppose average age 25, but as Thais all look younger you will think they are all same age as your girlfriend.

Apart from hotels as Dodger has mentioned - girls can be more choosy - up their asking prices if they so choose. Supply and Demand.
But OP this not an issue as he's coming with his g/f.

Hi leemer101,
Welcome to the forum
To answer some of your questions, 1 & 2 have been dealt with by others.
3 Apart from hotel pickup, you can either use the airport limos to get into Patong (550baht approx) or walk a little to the right on exiting Phuket Airport to the taxi rank where a meter cab will take you for around 400/450baht.
4 The best suggestion for you will be to read as much as you can on the forum before leaving. Anything specific, try entering into the search function and you should get some threads come up to help you.
Apart from that , enjoy the forum, and enjoy your trip

Leemer: I was in Patong Jan of 2007...then again in May...Hotels are higher during high season but I didn't see any difference in the food and drink...I have taken the shuttle van from the airport (300bht) a couple of times and a taxi (700bht) once. The van is ok but crowded and they make one stop to see if they can sell you a hotel room if you don't have one already. The taxi is much more comfortable...but I am cheap...55555. As for age....as most BM's have said...all ages...and mixes well.
So...welcome and enjoy...
