NYC Noob looking to snorkel
Hello All!
Coming over with the in-laws on a 5-day tour from Hong Kong.
I would like to know if the snorkeling was good in Phuket and if anyone could share any info as to good spots, I would be most thankful.

Hi Welcome to the board
You should deffinatley try a Phi Phi Island tour. Phi Phi have many dive sites as well as heaps of snorkle areas.

Coral Island, just off the southern tip of Phuket is a great spot for snorkelling, and its a cheap trip too. Goes from Chalong Pier and its around a 15min trip.
Not too sure though about the sea conditions right now. August is notoriously poor for visibility and bad tides. Experienced divers on the board can give you more info about that.

I have done some snorkeling around Phi Phi Islands. There are many good spots. You can rent a long tail boat for a day and the "captain" will take you to several along with general sight seeing. A year and a half ago I paid 1600 baht for 8 hours, well worth it.
I am sure that are many other options, but that's the only one I am familiar with.

Hi and welcome to the board.
4 years ago i went on a day trip to racha-island and it was nice. once you're in patong you can just check one of the many tour-operators. you'll have a couple of choices of where to go but as Dawsey said it might be different than high-season because of the weather.

generally the further you go onto Phangna Bay the better the conditions will be at this time of year due to the higher seas in the Andaman sea....
for nearby to Patong you have the north end (Kalim) and south end of patong beach (the headland outside of the lagoon) Kata Noi, Nai Harn Nth etc and then offshore Coral Island, Racha nai and Yai (you can go on a scuba day trip + snorkel in Banana Bay there) and better still go to Phi Phi or the Krabi area.....tons of great spots....up to you how far you go.....but the farther the better

I always bring my snorkling gear. Paradise beach off of Patong had some nice snorkling. Down at the end of Patong beach by the rocks can be fun if its calm.
