Exclamation Another First Timer Needing Help and Advice?

Hi All,

I am also just new to this site. I visited Thailand back In July this year for two weeks and fell I love with the place and the people (Esp Bangela Road!) I was a bit scared in going as I have to use crutches to walk, but found that everyone was helpful and could not do enough to make sure my holiday was the best – Which it was. I went with 3 of my friends who also had a good time, but they don’t really want to come back, and I do. My plan is to come back earlier January and stay about 3 weeks.
Can I ask is it safe for someone like me to travel on my own and would they recommend I go in a group? Any advice and placed to go would be great!

Great Site

Hi and Welcome you should have no problem travelling alone most airlines can help with baggage and when in Thai you will find most if not all Thais will bend over backwards to help and make sure you are taken care of.......the only thing i would say is Jan is high season and Bangla road is very busy and maybe a little difficult to get around compared to july but have fun and enjoy.....

I am sure the question is not about mobility, as you will be the best to answer that. I don't think your situation makes your more at risk than others. If you feel personal support enhances your experience, then find a lady that would like to spend the holiday with you.

It would be easy for everyone to say yes, of cause. If there is a country in a world where you can be sure you're being taken care of that would be Thailand indeed. You have experienced it yourselves. Than again, I never have been in a position to think this trough thouroghly.

I would say, it's not a very bad idea to know some people you can rely on.

It's August now, you're planning to go in January again. Why don't you hang around on this forum, get to know some BM's, plan your trip and I'm sure till then you are in good company to head off to by yourselve and have a blast. Welcome to the board !

Cool Alone is OK

Welcome to the board.

I would say just come on on your own. After all you know the lie of the land and how to get about.

All you need to do is introduce yourself around the resident board members and take it from there. They can introduce you around to more people.

Being a BM is a very quick way of meeting new people. After a few days here you then have some new people to hang out with.

You would have to be a complete arssehole to not make friends - but that has happened too.

If you stay on Soi San Sabai....the soi at the top of Bangla with the traffic lights and the French cafe on the corner..... it would only be a very short trip....a 1-2 hundred metres...down to bangla.....Bill has a nice room on the ground floor of The Summer Breeze Hotel if it is available...see the ad in the accommodation section and his staff are amazingly helpful and accommodating

The C+N hotel straight accross from bangla on Rat-U-Thid Rd has a lift and the Expat just nearby would also be easy on the ground floor by the pool

have a look around the websites in here on hotels but I'm sure the gals in the sois would be kind to you as would the Thai business community and te tahi people in general...they are renowned for thier hospitality

Good luck with it Crab man....and stop takin that shite from Joy....55555

Smile A Big Thank You!

H Guys (I do mean both male & female)

Thank you ALL very much for all your advice and help…. And some funny words of wisdom!
I am starting to get things moving along nicely with my trip and now look like I will be coming out to Phuket at the end of January (About the 29th or 30th) and staying about 15 days.
I have thought about it a lot and came to the decision that you only live once and have to grab life by the balls once and a while! So I will be coming along on my own! Plus I can also get some company as and when I need it, and think being on crutches will not be too much trouble (If I can cope with the London Under Ground I am sure I am cope with Bangerla Road… Then again!).
So thanks again all of you for your help and words of advice. I do hope to see one or two of you out there and maybe get a few drinks in.
I do have one more question before I end this long message (Dam these Newbies I hear you all say!) Like all guys I met a girl out there in July this year (Yes she was a BG!) I hope to see her again at the end of January – Question is (I got there in the end) Will she still be working at the Bar, or do the girls tend to move on! I would like to see her again, but I am not putting any hope into things, as people move on. Just hoping she would still be there!

Thanks again (Please don’t give this poor Newbie who has to use crutches to walk any abuse!)

The Crab Man (An no I don’t have crabs before you ALL ask)

Hi Crab Man

I'm sure you'll have a great time next trip, even with the crutches.
As far as locating a BG, its possible she may still be in her previous bar, but they do tend to move around a bit. Ask at the bar if she isn't there, if they know where she has moved to. Its the only advise I could give you.
I assume you didn't swap phone no# or email addys?

1)Crutches should be no problem in Patong, just so long as you don't whack anybody with them!

2) You said it best when you stated: "you only live once and have to grab life by the balls once in a while!" That is just the attitude that you ought to have when you go to LOS! You will have a great time, when you look at your holiday that way!

3) The road is called "Bangla Road." Repeat after me, Bang-la Road!!

4) Why do you call yourself "Crab Man?" Do you work in a fish market? Or a carnival sideshow?

Just one more little question!

I know this guy who went to Thailand a while ago, and on his first night with a BG he had a little trouble in getting things going (If you know what I mean!) He has never had this trouble before, but found it a little hard (Ha Ha) the first time.
So I was wondering if any of the Other BM’s had trouble the first time?
I can then tell this really stand-up mate of mine not to worry!

Cheers

The Crab Man

(I did try to use the search – But could not get it to work – Ha Ha)

Hi and welcome to the board. I am glad to see you had a good time in Patong. Yes it's safe enough to travel on your own... Hell my first time in Thailand I was in Bangkok on my own, and I had done no research either. I have been on my own since and never had a problem... Next time you are there, I am sure you will meet many board members so really you won't be on your own...

Have a good trip and I look forward to reading your trip report.
