So when it rains...
Hello again!
So when one is visiting Phuket during August, one has to expect rain.
I know that I could spend days at all sorts of bars....but this trip is rated PG! LOL!
Is there anything to do or see indoors that is "family oriented" in Phuket?
Again, many thanks to all!

Simon's Cabaret is all indoors. Fantasia is outdoors for the pre-show activities (which many skip). The show is indoors. Just a couple that I am aware of.

Welcome Mike-
Other than bars - there is shopping - Patong JungCeylon, Phuket City - Central/Robinson.
Maybe like to try your hand at the shooting range in Kathu (undercover).
PG bars include Faulty Towers (Soi Sunset), Summer Breeze - BM Billpay US owner.

Mike: Don't forget that a good ol' fashion traditional Thai massage is also an indoor activity.

Noted and amended - was just thinking of safe PG day time places - perhaps go with P-One/Kangaroo/Shipwreck then - not been a day time drinker for a long while so pity to hear RIO heading in wrong direction.

When it rains, I always like to go get a massage. No hanky panky. Strictly legit. Very healthful, and relaxing!
You could also go to see the dentist.

indeed, good idea!
If you should go see a movie, try the first class at least once!
500 bhat gets you : acces to the lounge before the movie, you can have a drink and some snacks, snacks and softdrinks during the movie. Your seat will be a luxurious reclining seat (with leg rest). Very relaxing and you feel like a king. In my case it was so relaxing I fell asleep and missed at least half the movie (bugger!).
Don't forget to stand up before the movie when they play the Thai national anthem

Yeah this has been the brunt of many an altercation in the SFX cinema in central. Tourists and some farangs alone dont know the significance of the kings 2 minute pre movie slot. The Thais start going mental at the farang that dont stand up but hey they haven't got a clue whats going on.
Maybe they should make it more clear by putting up signs, telling people when they buy a ticket or printing it on the reverse of the ticket. One of these days if not already its gonna cause a big problem with the wrong people...

And while you are at Central enjoy a meal at Fuji before the movie, my favorite Japanese restaurant.
As for Thai national anthem, I think it is pretty obvious what you have to do, if everybody is standing up you may realise you should do same, or? If you go with a Thai girl, she will tell you in any case.

when i go to the movies in Bkk, they have a notice on the screen (in English) that clearly asks you to stand for the king.
don't they have that in phuket as well?

Definitely, get up, I also like the Thai anthem, it's a nice melody !
Now, if Germany's playing on TV and I stand up, put my hand on my heart just for a joke and ask my wife to do the same.
Does she, heck no :-)

LOL...
Yeah... when that one was composed some 400 years ago or so, we didn't play football yet. It is because we took away one of the few good guys in Germany to start our Royal Family.
The song was elected to be our National Anthem during the so called 80 year war of independence against Spain (1568-1648). It has also a line that we always honoured the King of Spain .
Actually there are talks going on everyonce in a while to keep the music but change the lyrics of our anthem and get rid of the text referring to Germany and Spain.

I just went to see The Simpsons at Central -- can confirm that there is no message in English asking you to stand. Saw many farangs with no idea they were supposed to stand, but by about halfway through the anthem most of them figured it out though. I think a couple of them never stood up at all.
