Hi Newbie would like information
Hi everybody.
I'm new to the forum and I live in Qld Australia . I have found the forum a great source of information it has been very very helpful re advice on bars,BG,hotels etc. I went to Phuket for the first time in July for a conference and had such a wonderful and eye popping experience I have booked to go back this Friday. I was wondering if anybody could recommend good places to eat in Patong including the large eating area with all the outside restaurants to choose from around the corner from Bangla Road and also a nice place to take a date for a meal.
Thanks in advance

If you want to impress "a date" take a trip out to Kata and go to Ratri. Its a Restaurant with a live Jazz band playing while you eat. Not cheap but great food great service and classy venue, sure to impress...even a stuck up farang bird!!

Kalim Cafe, if you like italian food, I have meant to recommend this place to BM's for a week now since my first visit. Location is unfortunately a tuk tuk ride from patong heading towards kamala, but only about 2 km outside, you go passed kalim bay, the 'white' house is on the left, as you pass this and start to go up the hill on the right hand side is an awful illiminated orange sign, saying Kalim Cafe Ristorante Pizzeria & Bar. Its a horrible tacky cheap old sign, which is why after driving passed this place for 20 months since living here I had previously not popped in.
Nice bar with pool table then short walk to restaurant, just a roof and plastic canopy sides if it rains. We ordered pizza for Duncs and chicken steak in creamed gorgonzola sauce with roast potatoes for me. Chatted to Mai the waitress and she introduced us to Gio the owner, a nice italian guy who was very attentive to us all night as far as service was concerned.
Food is slightly more expensive than run of the mill places, say 300 to 550 per dish (thai food is cheaper). It has an okay view of patong bay but you are on the other side of the road so not brilliant by any means.
As people left I noticed the chef always came out to meet them and talk and on every occassion they were enthusing about the food. The owner of the Offshore bar and his wife came in and I thought that if they had driven over here maybe the food was going to be okay.
Duncs had ordered a soup starter and it came first, wow and in thailand. Once finished our main courses came at the same time, double wow, this was rare.
His pizza was nice, thin based but the salami was especially imported for them and covered the entire pizza, but a pizza afterall is really only a pizza and although better than most on the island not worth going out your way for. My chicken gorgonzola jobby was, wow, no double wow!!, best meal I've eaten anywhere on the island. Edo the chef came over to our table after we had eaten, and I found myself gushing with praise as everyone else had
My recommendation to all expats, if you havn't tried this place make a beeline there next time you want really good Italian food. No I'm not related or on any form of commission.

Thanks
Thanks for the great info especially Werwolf the past threads are great . I did a search for restaurants before I posted but it didnt seem to bring these up .
The "date " was a lovely massage lady who I met on my trip in July who I promised to take out to dinner which is one of the reasons I am going back. I was called back to OZ early and missed my last night in Phuket when I was going to take her out. This was one of three things I was going to do on my last night - second buy some drinks for a manager of a bar that I went to every night who was expecting to see me on that night and third promised a lady in the Dragon that I would BF her and never got to. Roll on Friday.
Thanks again.

One of the best around for Thai food and in a good setting.
Other one for Thai food is a gay run restaurant in Soi Wattana: Sea Hag.
