"Phuket - Lets Just do it!"
Hi,
Well - we did it - after talking about it for years - we bought the tickets, packed the bags - and headed to Phuket to Live. Well - it wasn't exactly like that - it took a couple of trips home to get everything sorted - but are now officailly on a ME Visa that allows us to be in this country without getting whiplash from the 30 day yoyo - and looking forwrd to becoming locals, or expats anyway!
Sounds like there is a bit of fun to be had, and some things to steer clear off (like this thing called the hash? are the Hash Bashers a vigilante group of concened citizens cleaning up the steets of hash-ish? or hash-ers?).
We (me my wife and son) have rented a house, have borrowed a pickup, gsined a nanny - and lost a nanny, experienced the &^%$#@*&^! intermittent internet service (i still have to work - no internet - no work - hey wait a minute - that should be a good thing!!) , enjoyed the regular blackouts, oh so nearly cleaned a few motorbikers up, oh so nearly been cleaned up by crazy bus drivers on the trip to BKK, and a few other things that Australia definetly had on offer!!
Looking forward to experiencing a whole lot more of LOS - any suggestion???
I was originally looking at doing some business in Thailand, but the longer I am here, the harder it looks. I take my hat off to you guys that are working here - and making it work Whats the secret? In the meantime - I am still have a business back in oz, I am going to try to cut some cost by sourcing things in Thailand for it - I have already found "print sticker" is about 15% the price here as compared to oz. If any of you know a good printer who can do print sticker, brochures etc - i'd love to know. Same goes for website designers, promotional gear, computer programming and building design work. Oz is nuts when it comes to labour costs
BTW - any suggestions on BMs to steer clear off? Any that like to :drink: to much or maybe are a bit trigger happy , maybe they whinge too much , or they run through the jungle to check up on their hash-ish crops - and any other clues!!!!!
Hope to put faces to usernames as i use this forum some more - it has been really useful when ever I have needed to check anything up - i would trust a debated thread on this forum way over a website trying to tell me that - sure - no worries - you can get reception service all over Phuket when I go to buy a 12,000 baht internet card - right!
See you in the bars, in the jungles or where ever we meet.

I agree with marc26. head into any of the places he mentioned, introduce yourself to the owner and he'll introduce you around to any BMs who happen to be in. It won't be long before you're a mad drunken bastard like the rest of us.

Welcome Geared (husband of Sparkle) ... m26 has given you a run down of the BM bars - check these places out - your sure to make some good BM friends here.
As for internet - yes it sucks - IT hub of Thailand, Phuket is not.
Good luck to you and your family here. See you far a beer

The chances of having some one on the board from Gympie - 5that will take offence at that comment - zero!!!!
