Not blowing hot and cold. As I say I stick up for myself.OK so I only have a budget of about £1000.00 a month, but why do people reply saying £250.00 is only one good night out.If I had that sort of money I would not want to waste that much. I still dont think you could blow that unless your being stupid and no can drink that much.Same as I said its just someone belittling my budget to brag.Prob full of s##t anyway.Whoever made the comments prob dont live in LOS. Difference between being on your hols and living somewhere.I dont intend on propping a bar up all day, can do that anywhere.Anyway I am grateful for some of the positive advice I have been given.I have money in a account for a condo, got a good pension to drag when I am 50 in just over 5 years time.Just gonna invest the money from my house sale in 1 years bonds and chill for a year.Wont be able to live like a king, I understand that but its better than being in the Uk nowadays.

Put it this way, if you're the sort of guy to spend 100 quid+ on a night out a night out in the UK, then you're likely to be spending 6,500 baht+ a night here.

Going through what would be my minimal expenses to live enjoyably here I would guess at;

15,000 Baht - Rent
2,500 Baht - UBC
1,000 Baht - Internet
2,500 Baht - Laundry
2,000 Baht - Electricity
9,000 Baht - Food (300 baht a day)
2,000 Baht - Visa runs and staying in the country expenses
1,000 Baht - Medical (without any emergencies)
3,000 Baht - Transport (Motorbike & Gas)
1,000 Baht - Clothing
2,000 Baht - Cigarettes
1,000 Baht - Water
-----------
42,000 Baht a month just for basic living

leaves you 23,000 baht a month for going out, beer money and ladies.

Assume going out 3.5 times per week with a lady once a week, leaves you with about 1,000 baht a night going out money.

IMO that is JUST doable but not too much fun and doesn't include any trips, sightseeing etc...

When I first moved here with completely paid for accomodation, internet, electricity, car, laundry, maid (lol) etc... I was doing easy 50k baht a month just on going out, not including women really as I wasn't that much of a mongerer. I'm not a big spender either, not many nights out here when I've spent more than say 3-4k baht.

That's interesting to compare with your expenses and my sons Benjy, quite a bit different and also so much more doable.

Perhaps we shouldn't only consider our own expenses and ways of living when advising others, whom we do not know or how they wish to live.

It was good of you to detail the expenses and i didn't dare compare with my own because I spend too much money every month, but I think the general consensus would be that 70k is liveable here for a single guy. Girl costs also drop when you get a live in girlfriend and you may also then possibly gain a second income.

why not go the whole hog and sleep on the beach ad eat out of trash cans - works for some unfortunates?

in all seriousness - it's better for anyone wanting to come here on a long term basis to understand that it is not 'cheap' or easy.

your money will not last long and you may be pissing away a career back home in the meantime.

70K a month. I doubt that I´ll be able to retire in Phuket in 20 years.

It is of course impossible to give accurate advice on this, as the “luxury” variable (drinks, girls, cigs, travels etc) are just that: A variable.

Having been a complete idiot with money all my life, I’ve recently decided to become a bit more conscious of my spendings. After looking at what I have ACTUALLY spent over the course of the years, my basic necessities (rent, food, visas, UBC, internet, insurance etc.) have been fairly close to 40K a month on average. Including running a company.

Double that figure, and that just about gives you my spending --- on average. Some months substantially less, and others, well……
