IJ normally says UTFSE. He is in a good mood today
He is correct and you are in the existing not living category at that level.

Is this meant to imply something? How long a member spends on a PC is surely up to them.
Sorry you don't appear to have a sense of humour re faultytowers reply!

1k £ roughly 65k baht.. The English teachers i spoke with in BKK made between 30-50k baht a month. 65k baht would be enough for me to have a nice lifestyle in Phuket. Thats assuming you're only gonna be paying for yourself.

True, but you were quite willing to use the same people that you are looking down upon to get you the info you needed. Without the sad people with limited lives, no internet forums would be possible.

OK guys , mistakes were made but let's just get the thread back on to the original question.
I can't answer but I guess others would need to have some idea about accomodation needs/costs before being able to give accurate info.

ok
Just a straight talking guy and I dont take any bull off anybody.Faulty Towers explained there was no malice in it.Apology accepted. Takes a man to say sorry. Just dont have time to trawl on the search engine and I thought the idea of the board was to interact. If everyone on the newbie section used the seach engine apart from a new introduction there would be no point in the newbie section. Thanks anyway for the info. Regards Ian

Serious Answer
After you have trawled the Expats section you will find many different opinions on what it costs to "live" in Thailand. I am always at the expensive end of this discussion because the lifestyle we have in Thailand is similar to the UK.
If you own a decent house in Thailand and have a Car, TV, Aircon and sensible food and wine then the monthly bills are manageable quite easily on about £500 a month. However, if you want to go out, which really is a must, then £100 a week for entertainment is a little tight and this does not include holidays or buying furniture and so on. You might also add in the gardener and the maid. If you are renting then clearly the rent will be a part of the budget.. A quick trip down the property pages will give you a good idea.
But some people are quite able to exist on much less and enjoy themselves too. Also if you are on your own and have no dependents apart from temporary companions then it is really "up to you".
However, and I think this is where I differ from some others, Thailand is actually not "cheap" if you want to live in a real place rather than a hut and participate in local affairs. But as always it is entirely "up to you".

100% agreement !!
While it is possible to live on very little, it involves living a lifestyle that I would personally not enjoy. To bring that lifestyle up to one that is satisfying is not the bargain basement that some posts or guesses indicate. Also for me one of the appeals was upgrading my lifestyle rather than downgrading my expenditure. Of course a non drinker, whose enjoyments come from hobbies they can pursue or simple pleasures like the beach etc can do far better.
I have written some long posts detailing a normal guys outgoings broken down that can be found. The long story short, 40k is basic existance, 60k is a nice lifestyle without much drink party nightlife budget, 80k and up is pretty much everything covered but if you hit the bars and want to just live like a non stop bangla road vacation then its possible to spend 100's of k per month. Other locations in Thailand can be cheaper than Phuket.

Add another 15k a month at least, if a TG gets her hooks into you....not counting the sick buffalo payments.
