Patong & Lamai
Hi Guys.
Want to introduce myself. Been reading the threads for a few days and found some really useful info for my first trip to LOS. I am travelling in early Jan from UK, in Bangkok for 3 days (want to see the place) , Patong for a week (of fun), then Lamai for a week (of chilling + some more fun).
At the end of my trip I am back to Bangkok for a night before I fly to Dubai to take up a new job there.
My company have organised my flight and its now a couple of days later, so was wondering whether to have that exta 2 days in Patong or Lamai. i would be grateful for your advice.
Good job for putting such a great board together. Looking forward to meeting up with some BM's when i get to Phuket.
Thanks guys.

Welcome to the Board...I'd stay around Patong, if you want quieter you only need go along the coast 15 mins north or south and you'll have it anyway.

Welcome to the board. You will not want to leave Patong once you get there.

Welcome to the Board. I hope you got time for the jibba jabba.
I reckon 7 nights in Samui is sufficient, so I would recommend the extra 2 nights in Phuket or (throwing a spanner in the works) heading down to Pattaya from Bangkok for 2-3 nights (ie. 5 nights BKK/Pattaya).

Patong and Lamai
Well, sounds like a big thumbs up for Patong... and even as though i should stay there for the whole trip. I did originally want to see a bit more of LOS, but I am quite flexible. Might be a bit tricky to get alternative hotel arrangements (loss of deposit/peak season probs) at this time as I booked a while ago, but I'll look into it.
Also will look into if I could fit Pattaya into the plan. How long would it take me to get there by car from Bangkok?
Thanks again guys.

I wouldn't cancel out Samui at all. I agree that it is worthwhile to see as much of LOS as you can.
Approximately 2 hours from Bangkok to Pattaya by car.
Another option you *could* consider is to visit Koh Samet from Pattaya. This would add a bit of travelling time to your itinerary (Bangkok --> Pattaya --> Koh Samet --> Bangkok Airport --> Phuket --> Samui) but would make for an excellent trip with a nice blend of action and chilling-out interpersed.

If your under 35 you'll like Samui and its pretty as well and you'll have as much fun with the Tourist girls as the Thai...I just meant to add the 2 days to patong/Phuket. Pattaya is not for nature lovers ,its not Thailand, its one big bordello...

Good info - thanks. Gonna see if I can organise an extra couple of days in Patong with the hotel or alternatively take a trip to Pattaya for 2 or 3 days when travelling back to Bangkok.
MC - not too much over 35 and still able to party, so think I'll enjoy Samui.
BU - I always try to make time for the jibba jabba!
Cheers chaps!

Hi.... I combined Phuket and Samui (Lamai) many times. Each of them has it's charmes. It depends on what comes on your way during your stay in Patong. If you have to make a decision up front.... I would devide it in 8 days each. If you are flexible.... wait and see what happens in Patong before you decide how long you go to Lamai. For a nice chillout at the beach at the end of the holiday I would prefer Lamai. For an unforgetable beach... make a 2 day trip to Nanguang Island near Koh Tao. And as said before..... Pattaya is nothing off a beach destination.... It's only for the girls and nothing.. I repeat nothing else. The beach directly in Patt's is ugly.
btw.... welcome to the board.
Cheers,
Raval

here is my opinion (in order of best to worst):
1. For girls: Pattaya, Phuket, Lamai
2. For everything else: Lamai, Phuket, Pattaya
But to be honest I've had my most enjoyable times in Lamai- a very friendly place, chilled, with still some good nightlife, especially the discos and of course great beaches. But I'm quite fussy with my girls (they have to be hot, I'm a handsome man dont you know hehe) and I must admit I had to scour around more in Lamai than any other place to find hotties, although they are there of course, just (hundreds) more of them in Pattaya and Phuket.

I spent a week in lamai last trip wasnt a hansum man there. I think the girls there like younger, or maybe because I was with my GF who Knows a lot of people there. They stayed away from me i felt like i was back home but the soon as i got to Phuket not only was i hansum i was sexyman.

Thanks again boys.
Have read your thoughts and am gonna stick with my 3 days bangkok/7 days Phuket/7 days Lamai... and am thinking about rounding it off with 3 days of madness in Pattaya. Hadn't thought too much about visiting there before, but sounds like it might be a fun/mental way to finish my trip off - I could go straight from there by car to Bangkok to get my flight to the desert.
Will let you know final arrangements and look forward to reporting back on my trip!

Been reading a lot of posts on the site and starting to realise that I might get addicted to the place. The good news is that i'll only be six and a half hours away once I'm in Dubai, so weekend trips could become a possibility.
On that basis, I think I can visit Pattaya then, so I'm going to extend my stay in Patong by a couple of days before heading down to Samui. Got to change hotels as mine is full now, but that's not too much of a hassle. Staying at Safari Beach for a week, so looking around at the mo for something similar.
