Hi BM's, I have been lurking these pages for a couple of years now, and after a few false starts it looks like I am finally organising my first trip to LOS. You fargon beauty!!
I'll try not to make this too long.
I have a few questions as my budget is a little stretched (same reason for the false starts) and before I get a bollocking from IJ

I have done the searches to death - well I gave them my best shot.

I am coming over around 10 Jan '09 with the missus and 2 kids 12-13yrs

This makes an exiting and cheap trip not so exiting and definitely not cheap but I'm travelling with a mate and his tribe so I have a fellow escapee to help me home in case I accidentally fall into Christins or somewhere after a visit to MTB or other such venues.

I am hoping I can get some info on good priced accomodation. I know it is high season but with school hols I have no choice.
What I am looking for is a clean 2 bed unit/apartment (as I have heard this is cheaper than the hotels) with a pool so the kids and leader of the oposition are happy, and not too far from the action. Close to the beach would also be an advantage but if there are a couple of suggestions we can compromise to suit ourselves and budget.
I looked at Kalim Residence serviced apartments which was perfect but probably a little out of my price range. I also saw a place called Andaman Paradiso suites and it looked OK, and the price was pretty good but it only showed the penthouse, which I should think would look OK, so not sure.
Can anyone with local knowlege please help?

So what is your preferred budget? at least then I'm not going to make suggestions that are above or not good as too cheap!!

I'm thinking of around the 2000b per night. I could stretch a little more for a nice place but was thinking if it was cheap enough I could stay longer.

Montana Grand Hotel.

Not luxury; Not expensive; Near the beach; Has a swimming pool.

They are slow this week... maybe email and ask for a discount.

Thanks but I'm looking more for apartments. I know I sound a little (maybe a lot) cheap, but I am just trying to get a feel for what's around for the price and I want to stay a little longer or spend a little bit more around town while I'm there if I can.

I saw Andaman Paradiso Suites for around 2000b but I can't find any recomendations or even photos and one thing I've learnt from the forum is sometimes things aren't as they look when you get there.

Thats uber peak high season and you need 2 beds for 2k for BOTH of them in Patong.. Sounds tough !!

Sunset apartments is possible.. Would need to sweet talk them of have a long ish booking.

From memory Paddys inn had some 2 bedders.. Was a bit basic tho.. And out the way, more a long stayers kind of place.

Hey thanks LL, I know I probably started a bit low... should probably bump that to 3000b if I'm gunna find anything really.

My mate is happy to pay 7000 for his digs but I spose thats what he gets when he has to slum it with me!

Doesnt that get one at the Kalim residence ?? It really is nice.. I was going to put my mum in there long term ($$) but she wanted more privacy than a shared living scene like that gives, but they are really nicely laid out, great pool, lovely after dark. compared to others I know of they are much much nicer.

If it was me I would really try to stretch to that as the little extra is buying a LOT more.. Just my 2 satang.

Theres also one out of town up the hill a bit with a strange name.. Trying to remember it but brains not working.. Would need to use motorbikes and tuktuks there tho and thats not so simple with kids.

The super luxury place is Prince Edouard apartments.. Probably over budget.

I don't mind spending a bit more if it is a pretty nice place. I liked the look of Kalim Residence so it is good to get some first hand knowlege as you never know how old or doctored website photos are. As my mate would say, "put your hand in your f&#ken pocket you tight ****" and I think I will.

By the way I think your Avatar likes me. She can't take her eyes off me!
