Hello from a newbie poster,
Hello to all at Phuket info, I am on my way to Phuket in October for the first time so thought I would join up here on this great forum to find out some useful tips and advise about the Island.
I have been travelling to Thailand in total now for about 6 years and done about 15 trips in that time but always to Pattaya and recently more trips to Bangkok.
The main reason for coming to Phuket in October is that I am bringing 'my parents' as part of a two trip around Thailand as they wanted a special holiday this year as they are celebrating thier 40th wedding aneversary.
They have been keen to check out Thailand for a while and to see why i and my friends keep raving about it.
So mainly at the weekends i'll be signing on and maybe asking what seem to be dumb questions sometimes, but all in just understaning the Island.
We are staying at the Amari Coral Beach at the southern end of Patong Beach, a little pricy i know, but top quality for my parents to enjoy thier relaxing holiday.
I understand its not guest friendly, (for me) but we'll see what happens once i'm there and if it is a no go with the tg's i'll have to make do with some st bars until i get back to Bangkok & Pattaya the week after our stay.
Once again hello to everyone and chuck any advice at me as you feel fit.
Nick.

WTTB. The Amari will probably charge you 1000 baht 'in-room meeting' fee if you want to take a girl in.

Welcome to the forum Nick. I hope Phuket lives up to your expectations.
Obviously smaller, and much lower key nightlife to Pattaya, but still a great place to visit.

Welcome Nick.
Good idea to take the oldies somewhere where you wont be recognized 555555!
And a loooong way from Bangla rd.
BTW - Seaview Patong (south end) had a 3000 baht "guest fee" last October - their double room + ABB was only 2300 baht - talk about "family friendly".
Sharpen the subterfuge skills me boy! ( particularly as there is no hunting skill required in LOS).
Have fun.

How big/long is the Patong beach road area in comparison to Beach road in Pattaya ? I have looked at a few maps but can not get a feel for the size of the main drag.
Plus why am i keep being logged out today ???

I would also like to learn a bit more about the best way to travel on the day trips to the Island scattered around Phuket, and also if we go to Krabi is that a full days outing or is it an over nighter ?? Any web sites for doing the island hopping tours ?? Thankx.

krabi is a much quieter resort than patong very picturesque and relaxing not much of a bg scene but i found the place well worth the visit.an overnight stay would be the minimum,3 days or more to take in whats on offera truly ammaxing place, don't even consider a day trip it would be a waste of time and money

Hi Bangkoknick
Do yourself a favour and do an overnight trip to the Similan Islands. Absolutely beautiful and great snorkeling. Not sure but think only open for visitors from beginning of November. Only few bungalows so essential to book in advance.

Thanks, is there the equivalant to Pattaya's 'soi 6' in Patong or is it just 'outdoor' and 'shop house' style beer bars with a few scatttered go-go's ?? I understand there are not too many go-go's here.

Welcome to the board. Red your trip report ta bkk and patts .very good made me register in the patt addicts forum good reading. Sorry the lovely soi6 do not exist here but there are solutions. Your room is Amari is that a single roomore double room? There might be a way around joiner fee.
Take care
