Hi there all...

Hi there guys (and a few girls)

Wonderful forum you have here. I am new on the forum, and a newbie i LOS.
I am a 35 year old scandinavian, who will be landing in Phuket for the first time on april 4th. Though only for a week...

And I am looking forward to sampling the local cuisine and the locals:-)

I have read exstensively on the forum, and have sort of figured out by now, that asking how to meet a girl, how to pay, etc. is redundant. Apparently I will discover all of this as I go along:-) Looking forward to it!!

About accommodation: I just bought the plane ticket, not a package. I need to find a decent GF friendly hotel or guesthouse. I have seen lists on other threads, so no problems there, but the big question is- do I need to book in advance???

I have been looking at 1500 baht rooms (double, no joiner fee)-is that reasonable? I am really just looking for a room that wouldn’t scare off the girl, nothing special.

Also, I wanted to ask you guys where to go out down there? What are the good bars at the moment? Are there any bars that play rock music?

Does anyone know if the BJ bar is still open (read about it in another thread)? It sounds like a surreal experience!

Thank you for any info you might have - and, well, see you all there at MTB I guess!

Welcome to the board, I'm sure you'll have a good time. Might see you at MTB, I arrive on the 9th, for two and a half weeks.

Hi Jedi,

Welcome. I enquired through Chalemporn Guesthouse at Patong thanks to a post by Hagler, and was quoted 6000 Baht or 2 weeks. Check out their website and see if it suits your needs.

They responded very quickly to my request and it seems pretty good.

Regards

HV

Welcome to the board and good to see that you are combing through the information. For 1500 baht you should get a pretty nice room in April (mid season). Summer Breeze (see link upper right of this page) is highly recommended by many BM's and rooms start at 1100 baht in April. If going even less expensive you should be able to get a Guest House room at 6-800 baht.

A good start!

Thanks alot for the fast information. Wow, boards like these are really something:-)

Have already mailed both Chalemporn and Summer Breeze, and I agree, they both look really nice. Though, must say, Chalemporn seems grossly underpriced!! Nice one HV.

Welcome to the Board. Only a week....well I did that in February and it's a looonng way to go for a week. You should book your hotel prior to arrival as you certainly don't want to be dragging your bags around looking for a room. All you need is a Guesthouse and if you look at the accommodation thread there have been many noted GF hotels posted over the last month.

And I don't know about that bar you posted as it may have been shut down as someone posted it's location on an open forum...5555..

Enjoy your trip.

Welcome to the board Jedi. Regarding accom i would suggest a guesthouse called P L guesthouse which is just down a small soi opposite Christin massage which means its just a short walk to Bangla Rd which is where Soi Eric and MTB is etc. I was there about one month ago and paid 1100 per night when i paid for a week at once which seemed pretty good especially as i think it was still classed as high season..so aybe even cheaper. The rooms there are pretty basic with air con, cable TV hot cold water etc and NO joiner fee which is good. I will have a llok around for website etc and post back.

Welcome to the board. Maybe see you at MTB in April.

I usually have my accommodation sorted in advance as I really am not all that constructive on holiday.

Welcome to the board.
There is a place on Beach Road called Rock City....or as the Thai girls refer to it........Lock City.
It plays rock music.....but it's very very loud.
Enjoy!

hey mate and wttb

A one week trip is just enough to give you a sample of the delights on offer. I think you may be back for 4 weeks next time no doubt in the near future.

Have fun

welcome to the board!
At the end of your week you will probaly be kicking yourself that you didn't stay longer.
I don't think the girls care that much about what room or hotel you stay in. I've been in nice hotels to ordinary guest rooms. Everytime the "loom look nice" for them.

Maybe you should try "Le Vele" in soi la diva (opposite jungceylon 200m in the direction of Christin massage). Stayed there in november and paid 800 bhat per night. Clean and decent, air conditioned and of course no joiner fees asked. It's an italian restaurant with a few rooms for rent and about 2-3 minutes walk from bangla. Don't know if he got rooms available but if you want contact details you can pm me.

Thank you all for the great help and advice.

I got the last avaliable room at Chalemporn Guesthouse, and it was cheap and looks great. Thanks for that one HV!

But thanks to everyone - I have made a note of all the other options and already passed on a few of them to friends.

I know that one week isn't long enough, especially for the first time, but it was a cheap ticket, and I just wanted to get my feet wet I guess - as well as everything else

Will let you know what happens, either in person at MTB or on the forum!

Brings up an interesting question, how much rain can I expect the first week in april? I now its mid to low season, but an international weather site said it ought to be okay for some sun as well?

Weather - April is supposed to be one of their hottest months so no raincaots for you my friend

Girls - Its peak season and a very busy time in the whole of Thailand so there will be girls everywhere... Never found it hard to find a lady in LOS whether it be in Hi or Low season so in that sense you will need a massive raincoat because your gona be soaking wet bud

Good Luck

Couple of days in april when a raincoat could be of some help, but you would probably end up soaked anyway....
