Hello
Sawatdee Krap!,
Pom tchu Ben,
Kun Sa-bai mai?
Im 19 years old, Male, From Australia. I live in Victoria.
I just returned from Phuket, on Friday. My holiday was for 2 weeks. I instantly want to go back. One problem. I have no holidays left at work. Does anyone have any ideas?
Im not enjoying work at the moment, Im a Apprentice Chef, too btw. Im trying so hard to finish this qualification, only problem is, it is hard work and im not even half way yet.
I was thinking about packing up ship and migrating to Thailand, upon speaking to some, they told me im crazy, and that i should qualify before i do anything. But i dont want to wait. Ok, i met a girl over there, and dont want her to be taken before i return. But also, i love the food, the beaches, the weather. It is awesome.
What work do you other Expats do? As mum stated to me, when we went, we didnt see any non-thai, people working.
Also what age did some of you expats migrate?
Thanks

You are young, finish what you have to finish. Thailand and Phuket is still here when you are in a position to make the move. Its helps to have some dosh saved aswell before taking the plunge.
I moved down here when I was 28, in 1999.

Welcome to the board.
I don't mean to be harsh......but.......it's highly likely that the girl you met is already taken.....or sponsored by someone from a country other than Thailand.
It's just the way it is mate. Keep reading through the board and you'll come across many stories like this.
I would highly recommend you finish your apprenticeship before trying to get over to Thailand.
I am not sure how working visas go but perhaps it would be easier for you to move to Thailand if you had a qualification.....such as a chef.
And if things don't work out in Thailand.....you've always got a qualification, something to fall back on.
Good luck.

Seems you had a super holiday, but think things over a few weeks before you decide something. You're too much in holiday/love mode now.
Providing your tgf is still waiting for you, if you arrive with no money, no job, no nothing chances are her love for you wil die quickly.

Save some money and buy a bar, then you can live off the money the bar makes, easy as that.
But realistically finish your chef thing, consider working offshore as a chef and that way you can have 6 months off per year to spend where ever in the world you want.
I reckon this would be a good option, that way you can have a steady income from work and also live the high life half the year.
Good luck with whatever you do, most people on the board feel the same way as you do i reckon.

Mav, don't you need to be over 21 to obtain the HHPLC RTG's ?
I'd hate to see HHPLC wind up in court, from selling RTG's to underage persons.
Can you give us shareholders the rundown please.?

Welcome to the board....Nineteen and you want to move to Thailand because you met a girl? Grow up first, finish your schooling and build a base before you think of living a backpackers exsistance for a couple of years.... At some point you have to accept real life.

Mate I know exactly how you feel, my advice is listen to what others here have said and give yourself some time to think about it. If i were you I would finish your apprenticeship before you think about moving over. I am a qualified chef and have been cooking for almost 10 years I can not find a job in thailand as a chef. Having the qualification is great you can work overseas in many different countries, I am from australia working in england now for the last 8 weeks and getting some great experience aswell as being able travel around and see new things.
I love Thailand I wish to live there in the future and beleive I will but it is very hard to find a decent job as a chef there mainly because they employ locals for a lot less than they would pay us westeners unless you can get a position very high up in the ranks. Knowing thais I am now trying to further my career and get some good experience under my belt so that I may move up the ranks and land a job at a big hotel chain or similar and be able to live a nice lifestye in thailand. I love the lifesyle there but unless you have a good income its not as nice living there as when you just visit for holidays with all your hard earned spending money from back home.
Saying this you may not care and may just want to get over there, there are different options. One of my best friends still an apprentice chef and has put his apprenticeship on hold to move over to thailand full time. On his last trip he found himself a job teaching english at a school in Bankok. He earnes about 30000 baht a month working full time which is enough to live on but not much compared to the amount of money you might spent as you may know when your on holiday there. But he is just happy to be there and live in the place he so loves like so much of us do.
At the end of the day its all up to you mate my advive would be to weigh up what you want now and what you want in the future and do what you feel is the rite thing to do to live the lifesyle you want for your life.

You can`t work in LOS.
If you did,how do you plan on spending the 50 bucks a week you would get.
Most expats are usually in at least there 30`s,and have hard earnt cash behind them.
Go and make up with your Aussie girl, the one in Phuket`s probably already found one or two new BF`s by now.
Mum`s have a habit of being right.
