Account activation....sweet!!

Hello everybody,

First things first.......what a great forum you've got here, it's been a real wealth of knowledge (see later) for a newb like me - much appreciated

As the title suggest this is my first post after activation (what took so long?) & being such a good lad i've read the rules and here is my introduction......Hola.

I've had a bad few years really (play your violins now!), so decided to book my 1st holiday to Phuket (in March). What can i say really, probably the best 8 nites of my life, loved every minute of it (many, many post & questions to come at a later date BM's!!?). The advice & info i gleaned from this forum gave me a great insight to Phuket, Patong & BG's before i'd even set foot there. For this reason, i can honestly say that this made my holiday much more enjoyable & stress free, cheers

So I returned to dear ole blighty 10 days ago - and i got the LOS BLUES bad......
The remedy = just booked my 2nd trip for 3x weeks in November!!

Going to be staying at the Summer Breeze Hotel again (in a summer suite....sweet!!) , i followed everyones advice and went to bill's place.....superb!! If there are any other newbs reading this, try to get your accommodation here - great food, service, rooms and within easy reach of nightlife (ps, also no guest fee).

Well gonna stop there, will post more soon (stories, questions, etc)
Laterz Potataz!!

Background check is a serious matter and does take time. Be glad you made it. Of the many millions that have applied only about 30,000 have had their account activated

My return

It has been exactly one week since returning from my first trip to Phuket. I also have the blues; thus, planning to return first week of May. Who knows, perhaps I won't return to California. Wh should I?

A kink in the plan though, I as informed by my friend and travel companion (Andymon) that Pattaya is a better time, better deal and more enjoyable except for the lack of a great beach. So what the heck, beach or more fun? More fun works for me.

So, if anyone else has thoughts where I should go - Phuket or Pattays, please let me know your thoughts.

John Sq

Welcome to the board!
I agree this board is full of essential info. Helps me stay up to date on current events etc in Thailand which I feel is important even if only there a few weeks. I am very appreciative of all the BM's that share their knowledge. I also appreciate the humor of the BM's on this board. Nicke has done a great job on this board MTB etc. This is a great forum.

I would love to hear your perspective of Thailand. Always great to add to the great knowledge base here. I enjoy posting and being a part of life on this forum. L2 I guess is great also as it gives you all the info. Don't notice it much as I always use the "new posts" link and don't really notice which level it is in.

Beyond blabbing here....
welcome to the board!

Wttb,

Sounds like you both enjoyed your first times in Thailand.

Thanks for the WTTB's fellas!! it's much appreciated.

And hello also to Doctorjohn (fellow newb) glad to hear it's not just me with the Blues (lol). As for your quote:

I have also been thinking long & hard about my next destination - Phuket or Patts (check the search engine and you will see this is a dilemma for many BM's). In my humble and inexperienced opinion i decided on Phuket because of the island atmosphere, lots of beaches, great views etc. For the hedonistic night times i found Bangla road to be perfect for me - not too big, or in your face and plenty of choice (BG's). Also the hotel and friends i made have been a big influence on my decision to return.
I haven't choosen Patts as my main destination because i feel the nightlife (although not experienced it first hand) is probably a bit too much for me (honestly...lol). I have read many great thing about Patts and i don't want to dis a place i ain't been too - but i know that deep down i am quite a shy person and probably not the biggest party animal.....so Patong it is!! I gotta be honest tho.....i do want to witness the place (Patts) first hand, so saving some extra cash and will probably travel to Patts for a few days (sorry, nights).......see what i'm missing / what the fuss is about.

Let me know what you think Doctorjohn & fellow BM's?

Patts and Patong are not black and white.
Sound like you made the right choice ... it is your opinion that counts.
As you continue to visit LOS you are likely to visit other areas and then form an even more educated opinion as you go.

My buddy and Thailand tour guide Andymon returned to Los Angeles late last night after two weeks mentoring me (sometimes unsuccessfully) on the rules and idiosyncrasies of Phuket, then took of for another week in Pattaya. I’ll give him a few more hours to deal with the jet lag, then awaken him to solicit his views, which I will share. Based on his reports during the week, I think he would prefer to Pattaya over Phuket.

I am a beach person, diver, surfer, sand volleyball and all the other good stuff. Looked forward to visiting Phuket to experience the awesome beaches and all they had to offer – my dive gear taking up a greater part of my luggage space. However, due to the efforts of Andymon and the other nearly 25 absolutely “charming” BM’s doing their best to corrupt me, I made it to the Beach only once in two weeks, my dive gear never even unpacked. So the moral of the story, the beach won’t be much of an influence on my decision where to go my next visit. Better that I choose a very nice, comfortable and affordable hotel room close to the entertainment section with a decent restaurant in between. That seems to be where I spent the most time.

One of the greatest values in Phuket was the motorcycle - 200 Baht per day for unlimited travel. Rented one for most of the time I was in Phuket and soon figured out why it was so inexpensive. Not too many miles put on traveling from the hotel (Summer Breeze), stopping in for a bite to eat on the way to savor all the fun the bars had to offer. Simply 300 steps from hotel to bar

A trip to LOS reminds you how much life is for living and definately kick starts the appetite for getting on with things!
The LOS blues...some say that no matter how many trips you have, you will always suffer them

I raised the Phuket via Pattaya debate and the concensus was that Phuket was best if you were a beach person and liked the slower pace whereas Pattaya was more in your face and harder to take a break from the scene.
Pattaya was probably favourite for girls, but this was due to the vast numbers there giving more stunners, but Phuket has more than enough for me

I will be staying at the Summer Breeze in April and heard nothing but good things about it.

Oh nearly forgot wttb doc and bassville

The return

You will enjoy the Summer Breeze. The people are awesome and it close to everything fun - and a short walk to the beach. Very convenient. Although I just returned, hoping to had back end of April, first part of May. Not sure Phuket or Platt. Have a good trip
