Newest Newbie on the Block......Hi to ALL!
A warm hello to all BM's !!
Been checking out this board now for a few weeks and have had numerous headaches generated by the endless hours of trawling through the reams of useful info here. That in itself has proven to be somewhat addictive -Great Board!! Already appreciating the find & everyone's efforts.
I am a true Newbie - This is my first ever post (on any board) so am a newbie to forums and will (hopefully soon) be a newbie to LOS! I am also a newbie to 'punting' (I believe its called) and have never indulged in such delightfully naughty activities in the Uk or anywhere!
I wonder though - am I jumping into the fire here?? Is this wonderland going to be too much of a contrast to my usual tedious pace of life?? Anyway....
My first thoughts were 'OH MY GOD!!' 'WTF' - can this be real??? and if so how the hell have I been completely unaware of this adult playground at my ripe old age? - ok, not so old (mid 30's) but I sometimes feel old
Anyway, I've got to say it’s been an eye opening experience absorbing some of the infinite wisdom on this board.
Although its only been a few weeks I am (excitedly) now seriously considering a trip to Phuket. Nothing booked as yet but am thinking about flying out early may for a few weeks. Still looking at best flight & hotel options but The Salathai, Popa Palace and Patong Villas are all possibles (Summer Breeze also looks good but has no pool of its own ) - Probably too short notice to get these but will email them & find out.
No doubt I will make the usual (and knowing me some unique) mistakes upon my arrival (& yes, probably throughout the entire trip) but thanks to this board I now have some (minimal) knowledge of the wonderfully crazy world in which I am about indulge.
I look forward to more enlightening and often comical commentary on this board and more importantly to meeting some of you guys at MTB and sharing a cold beer!
Greetings -
Spangle

Welcome to the board Spangle. Good intro....Early May is the beginning of low season so you will not have any difficulty finding hotels or descent priced flights. Summer Breeze is a good place to start your newbie holiday as many BM's stay there. (just a little comfort)

WTTB Spangle....
"Punting" is betting on a horse..."mongering" is scanning the red light districts of LOS for Pay 4 Play partners.....

WTTB Spangle. Good intro. Now do the next "first" and get yourself down to the Travel Agent, or go on line and book that trip. You will not regret...

Welcome to the board. Am sure you're gonna enjoy yourself. SB is really a good hotel to start a maiden trip. They have free access to a pool down the street.
And in Holland, we call 'punting/mongering': "walking"...

Welcome to the board, trust me LOS is habit forming, lots of fun to be had. SB is a great place, haven't checked out the pool yet, but everything else so far has been top notch.

Welcome to the board! SB is great(am there now). Have not been to a pool or beach since arriving in LOS a week ago. 55555 Songkran is wet enough for me I guess.

Hi Guys - sorry took so long to reply...busy weekend!
Appreciate the warm welcome and words of encouragement from so many of you. Thanks.
Not had access to a PC since posting so will today look for some flights although at the end of last week they were looking more expensive at around £620!! I will keep searching - I'm sure I can do better than that!
Read past posts regarding length of trip (i.e. visit for a week and you will regret it!! etc...) so have decided to be flexible and go for 2/3 or maybe even 4 weeks depending how much I like the place and the bg scene etc. - and how long the funds last of course!! - I was thinking of heading out 1st week of May but only booking the 1st weeks accommodation now. Assuming (cos low season) there should be plenty of rooms available at short notice. That way I can move about (the region or hotel) as I please and stay for as long as I like at each place. I may want to check out Patts or Samui for a few days for example. Anyone think this a bad idea??
Thanks for all your advice re SB and pool situation - I know they have use of a pool down the road but was just being a bit lazy I guess - I'm sure it would be fine.
Going to start the search for flights now....
Spangle (Feeling very welcome - Ta)

Appreciate the offer of advice re hotels Marc - I have been through all of the hotels in the 'BM opinions to hotels/guesthouses' section but looks like its not been updated since June last year so maybe there have been some changes and/or additions that you (or any other BM's) know of.
Luxury rooms seem relatively cheap but am thinking no need going overboard on the luxury as it seems you can get a fairly good standard of hotel (in low season) for under 1500 bht per night - so why waste cash that could be better spent on other activates I reckon!! So 1500 bht range I guess, any new/updated suggestions would be great! Must have's - close to action, obviously gf, in room safe, good shower, sat/cbl TV and close pool access. Internet would be nice but not essential as not sure yet if it’s worth the risk of taking my laptop as I assume it won’t fit in the room safe? From reading posts I know that a lot of BM's take their laptops - What do you do with them when you are out and about??
Ps. Maybe see you for a beer one night Marc!

One recommendation..... Summerbreeze Hotel. Meets all your requirements! See the link on the right side of this page.
Also read the comments of many BM's on this board.
